Well,

My 31st birthday is coming up and I can''t decide what I should do.

1- upgrade my diamond to a larger one ( my eventual goal is 3 carats). But, knowing that the possibility of that large a jump will never happen soon, unless I hit the lotto, I would upgrade slowly until I reach that goal, so my goal would be an F or G SI1/VS2 H&A 2.25 carat size or larger, unless I take a lower color. Not to mention that prices have really gone up!

2-Get a pair of 1 ctw. diamond studs- or as close to 1 carat without actually getting 1 carat, don''t want to pay for the 1 carat mark price jump and just save the rest of the money.

3-Reset my 2 carat diamond in the Ritani pave 4 prong setting I posted and get the two matching wedding bands and get diamond studs about .70 t0 .80 ctw.

4- Get a diamond bracelet, either bezel set or prong set. Don''t know the carat weight I want.

I have a budget of $6000, give or take.....

I like option #3. Two new bands, a new setting for your e-ring and diamond studs too?! Whoa...happy birthday to you! Can you post a picture of the Ritani setting here? And right now your setting is a Leon Mege solitaire?

Happy birthday (hope your 31st year is fabulous!!!)

Okay, I'm tending toward either big stud earrings or the Ritani pave and the slightly smaller studs. With 6 grand you'd easily have half that money over after purchasing studs, so it makes sense to pick out another item

The more the merrier. lol

I don't think the minimal .25 c. upgrade is worth shelling out $6,000 and personally, I'd wait until at least .5 more is within budget.

I'm also planning to make a major purchase with 5K and am sort of wondering about all the possibilities as well. Bigger earrings and slightly bigger diamond or just a bigger diamond and reset my current diamond.

Too many ideas. . .more money IS needed as then I can just buy EVERYTHING. lol

Kayla17...

With a budget of 6k you could really get some nice side stones and make a gorgeous 3 stone ring. It would definitely add the bling you are looking for.

I went through the same thing that you are going through. I went back and forth between a larger solitaire, a 3 stone ring and a micro pave setting for over two years. When I finally got my solitaire to a 3 carat; I realized I still wanted a 3 stone ring afterall. This past August I added two .55 rbc's to either side and although nice I am going to upgrade the sides to .75's for my birthday this year.

It's horrible how fast shrinkage sets in. Pave is gorgeous but perhaps for a RHR.

Well,

I did a quick check on H&A diamonds 2 carats or more on Whiteflash and there is one that is 2.23, I think an H VS1 and the price difference would only be half the amount I want to spend. So I could take the rest of the money and still get earrings.

There is another one also that is 2.57 F SI1. That would be .54 carats more and within my price range, but it only scored very goods on the HCA and got a score of 2, so unfortunately, I don't want that one. I guess I got spoiled by my current diamond.

Option 3 is looking really good right now.

What is wrong with me anyway? Why can't I be satisfied with what I have? Why do I have a need to get a larger diamond , new setting, etc., anyway?/idealbb/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

I think I need help! Or a double shot of expresso with extra caramel drizzle and whipped cream, cocoa powder and two marachino cherries on top!/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif

hahaha - I doubt the sugary coffee will cure you.

I've had three or four shots of espresso and still am wanting at least 10 different diamond pieces at the moment. lol

Okay, if the upgrade isn't very much, I'd say do it. I hadn't looked at the prices for 2+ carats so I had no idea about price (lol - I'm looking more in the .8-.9 carat range and barely can remember all the price differences based on color/clarity. . .)

Anyway, I'm not going to say anymore. Just reading your post is making ME confused about how to spend my $. What to do????

Are you only looking for ACAs from WF?

If not, maybe they could run a sarin on this 2.7 F SI1 - it may be worth a look? There's also this 2.86 G SI1...

An early Happy Birthday to you kayla! 31 was great for me - hope you enjoy!!

Kayla just face it, you are a sick sick woman.

And since your husband obviously does not mind..because he keeps giving you $$..run with it!

I'd only do the upgrade on the stone if you could find something that was worth it in size..aka 2.5c. I don't think 2 to 2.25 is really going to make you happy.

I like the 3 stone right hand ring idea. You could get something like a .80c and .40c side stones in a beautiful LM or MM setting for $6k. Yummy. I tried one of these on at the store and LOVED these sizes on my hand for a RHR. Can't be bigger than your stone.
2.gif

Or I'd do the biggest earrings you could find...hehe. And focus on SI2 clarity to get that size up. Get two of these for about $6300 w/Pscope discount.

Or diamond bracelet idea is not a bad one either...
2.gif
I am not a fan of the typical tennis bracelets...I like line bracelets. Aka diamond...bar of metal...diamond, or similar type design. Blue Nile and Mondera have a few cool designs for bracelets for ideas if you want something other than tennis.

Speaking of bracelets, my girlfriend has a beautiful micro-pave tennis that doesn't even look tennis style because it's super thin, like 1.5mm. It's SO beautiful, all you see is this thin line of amazing sparkle. I think it was about $3-4k and I think it's about 1.5ctw.

Such decisions!

What would you enjoy/wear the most? Have you always wanted diamond earings? A certain bracelet? Or, has the ering setting really been lurking in your mind for a while? I tend to agree that 2cts to 2.25 isn't going to "feel" like much in terms of a center-stone upgrade...I just held a 3.26 up against my 3.01 and it was difficult to see the 1/4 carat. Now, the 5 ct was another story

Seriously, think about what will give you the most happiness on a day-to-day basis and trust your gut. Can't wait to see pics!

ohhhhh, you lucky gal! earrings earrings earrings!!!

I think you can get a lot bigger than 1 ct total weight if you go down a little in color and clarity. Earrings are totally diff than an e-ring...you won't keep looking at them to see color or inclusions!!!
