I still have an embarrassingly large watch collection though reduced from my 70 plus.
These are my two vintage Elgin watches.
The one on the left is a men’s watch known as the Touchdown 202 or mermaid watch. It is a keenly sort model and I’m lucky enough to own one. The dial is original and that’s the best way to keep vintage watches. The case is 14kt rolled gold ie not solid gold. I have paired it with a gold filled art deco stretch band.
The one on the right is known as the Lady and the Tiger watch. The story is the princess had to choose a fate for her beloved from one door or the other. Behind one door was a tiger who would devour the man, behind the other door was a royal lady who, if that door was chosen, would marry the Princesses beloved. The Princess knew what was behind the doors, so which door did she choose? This watch is also desirable and is in 14kt white gold. It is in very good condition, no enameled loss, and I’ve paired it with an Art Deco gold filled and black enamel watch band.IMG_3509.jpeg

What a fantastic pair of Elgins - thanks for sharing. The Touchdown 202 is a real gem, especially with that original dial still intact. You don’t see many in that condition, and the band you’ve paired it with suits it perfectly.

The Lady and the Tiger is such a striking piece, both for the design and the story that goes with it. Amazing to see it in such good shape with the enamel still clean. That band really brings out the art deco character too.

Hard to imagine cutting down from 70 watches - must have been some collection! Do you still lean more towards Elgin pieces, or are your tastes spread wider these days?

My collection is wide and varied.
Includes ladies compact with watches and enamel pendant watches.
One of my most treasured watches in the French Art deco one set into a ladies handbag.
I have always loved watches and still have the very first watch I was given, an Oris. I remember falling over off a verandah at a party and cracking the glass. I was devastated, I had also broken my arm but was more upset about the watch.
I do love the Elgins, only these 2 remain in my collection.
