We are having a string duo play for our ceremony and for the beginning of dinner. After that we are playing music off an iPod because we are not allowed to have a band in the wine cellar where we are having our dinner, and it''s only twenty people so a band would actually seem pretty silly.

Anyway, we are looking for some different ideas for popular music performed by string duos, for the processional, recessional, dinner, etc. Did anyone have a string duo?

all of these are covers of popular songs--they''re quartets rather than a duo, but it could still give you some ideas hopefully! good luck!

i should add that if you have any interest in a particular song and this site won't let you play it or if you want to hear the whole thing instead of just a sample, a LOT of these can be found on youtube if you search for "vitamin string quartet" and the song title. the coldplay ones are some of my favorites. they've done covers of an insane amount of stuff, though, so if you and your FI have a song or songs, search for it--they've probably done it.

Thanks Doodle! Did you do any string songs for your wedding?

Here is a link to the company I am using. They have a number of options for 2 strings, although most are classical, which you may not want.

I recommend the Vivaldi Guitar Concerto 1st movement. Its really a lovely piece of music and can be done with one guitar up to a full symphony and everything in between.

i''ve got a few months to go before my wedding, so right now, i''m still trying to wheedle my FI into using some of these!

he prefers the more traditional wedding music, but i hate it because our wedding will be the ELEVENTH we''ve attended in the past year, so i don''t want to do the same stuff that everyone has heard ten other times this year. i''d much rather go with coldplay!

I love the Coldplay songs by the string quartet but I have a hard time imagining walking to them. Our song was kinda "Green Eyes." (Not my favorite Coldplay song, it''s just that I have green eyes and it''s one of their few happy couple songs!) That ones not available in strings though.

Classical? Hayden, Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi. Skip the Pacabel; it''s a little cliche.

you. I am not having strings at my wedding (doing a harp and flute), but oh my God I love all of these CDs!! So cool!!

Nothing makes me want to cry like hearing the pachelbel canon !! I just love this piece of music, I know it''s cliche but it''s just so wedding-ey! One of my best friends walked down the isle to that piece of music and it just moves me everytime I hear it. I used to play the violin and I loved playing that piece. The way it crescendos through is awesome. Sorry, got carried away

It''s a fabulous piece of music; and ten years ago, I would have used it. I have a beautiful version by the Turtle Island String Quartet that is the best version ever. I used to listen to and just know I would walk down the aisle to it. But, in the end, I didn''t want to be like a gazillion other brides.

We're having a string quartet for the prelude and ceremony. Do you want more of a baroque or a romantic feel? I'm kind of torn between the two. There are more standard pieces available in the baroque style. Some pieces I'm considering that could work for a duo include the Brandenburg Concerto (I think the 3d movement?), Sheep May Safely Graze and Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, all by Bach. Any of Handel's Water Music pieces would work for a duo. Vivaldi's Four Seasons could also be pared down quite a bit for a duo, particularly the Spring and Autumn.

For more of a romantic feel, how about the Thais meditation? Also, I'm really personally struggling because I just LOVE O Mio Babbino Caro by Puccini. I heard a gorgeous Joshua Bell arrangement and now I'm practically obsessed with it, but I don't know how it would fit into our predominantly baroque ceremony and prelude.

Hope this helps!

EDITED TO ADD: I know you were asking for popular songs, but I assumed you meant popular in terms of recognizable at ceremonies, rather than pop music. Sorry if this isn't what you're looking for!

Brazen: Don''t know how I missed you the first time! Someimes I check pricescope so fast I skip a reply. Thanks for the great weblink! Your company has a lot more demos than mine so I got to hear some other music.

HollyS and Honey22: I agree! With both! Yes I cry every time I hear it and part of me has always been certain I would marry to that song. But it has been done to death. The only thing I have going to my advantage is that living in Florida, all of my friends got married on the beach and did much beachier music, so I don''t recall any of them using it. Still, I''m going to keep looking . . .

Krissie: Thanks for the great detailed advice! In answer to your question, I was referring both to classical/baroque suggestions and also some pop ones for dinner or for a "different" ceremony choice. Your suggestions are awesome.

To All: So I spent several hours yesterday listening to the Vitamin String Quartet samples and there are some great pop songs that convert to strings if anyone else is looking. I''ve picked a ton for dinner, but even for the ceremony, Thank You by Led Zepplin and Somebody to Love by Queen would work. (Don''t judge me til you listen! Even my extremely skeptical fiance was very impressed.)
