So when did stereo systems become obsolete?? LOL. I am completely out of the loop on what I should buy to listen to music. Ipod touch, nano, Zune? I'm not interested in tons of apps, just want to listen to music. Help!

I bought my DH the iPod Classic (160 GB) last year for Christmas http://www.apple.com/ipodclassic/

We have an extensive record album collection from the 1970s and 1980s and also invested in an ION turntable http://www.ionaudio.com/store/category/audio-conversion/turntables so that we can convert the songs on these albums to mp3 files. We then have the option to download them to the iPod or burn to a cd. DH converted all his Beatles albums, plus more, and downloaded them to the iPod. We also bought a BOSE SoundDock Portable to play music when he is not listening with ear buds. The sound is absolutely phenomenal. We can also connect the iPod in our cars and listen to it via the car speakers (also BOSE - If you can't tell I love BOSE).

Id go with any of the ipod products, but not the shuffle. You have no control over what you listen to with the shuffle --- it just 'shuffles' song by song and you can't search out a play list or anything.

I have a nano and a touch as well as an iphone and for simplicity - nano is your best bet. BUT... my guess is, you just might enjoy the options of apps, if you had an ipod touch!

I have an ipod touch and an ipod nano and I find myself using the nano far more. I do like the apps on the touch, but its a bit big (about the size of my phone) and I don't always have room to carry it around. The nano is tiny and fits in a pocket or can be clipped on. It has a touch screen and is super easy to use. I use it at work daily where I wouldn't want to be distracted with apps anyway.

As far as I know, Zunes were a big flop. They stopped selling them in Canada for a while so I'm not sure what they're like now. My sister has an old one and it works fine, its just pretty bulky compared to the same year's ipod.

I used to have a Sony mp3 player and liked it for the price (was $60 on boxing day years ago), but again, it didn't compare to the ipod nano.

Another fantastic point for Apple, they really stand by their product. My ipod nano from 2005 was just recalled before Christmas and they sent me a replacement within a few weeks. I wasn't really using the old nano anymore due to battery issues so it was an awesome bonus to get a current model as the replacement.

Off topic, but have you tried the BOSE earbuds? I was given a pair for Christmas and they are great!

I'm using them with the ipod nano and they really help with the battery life of the nano. They allow you to select an album without turning on the screen. Just hold down the button on the built in microphone and a voice comes on and starts reading off the album titles in order! You can select the one you want by clicking the button when its named. Great for work where I don't want to be fiddling and looking down at the screen all of the time.

When we got DD the iPod touch last year they came bundled with the BOSE earbuds. The sound was so great that I bought a pair for DH.
