Movers are HERE -- what to do with my wine?!?

So the movers just told me they don't advise packing my wine because it can get over 120 degrees in the storage area where my stuff is going to be for the next several weeks/months while I find a permanent place to live in Kansas City.

It would have been nice of them to tell me to take my wine with me when they came to do the preliminary look-around because they I would have put it in my car and driven it down.

:angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire:

Should I chance it? Given what I've read on the magic internet, it likely won't fare well, or should I just drink as much as I can in the next five days ( :cheeky: ) and give the rest away?

Dammit!!!

drink it.
give it away.
is it too late to drive it down?

How many bottles are you talking about?

Personally, I would not risk it. Those temperatures could really do harm. I have wine shipped to me from across the country. Using standard FedEx ground, it takes about 3 days and is about $25 per box of 12 bottles.

You should be able to get a box with wine bottle cushions (sort of like egg carton material) and just drop it off at the Fed Ex office.

Do you have anyone near where you currently are who could store it for you until you could make a trip back for it with your own vehicle? Sorry, I don't know where you're moving from. Drinking some and gifting some are good ideas, too. Can I be your friend? :cheeky:

I have about four cases of red. The white and the champagne I did load up and drive down when I went a few weeks ago (fortunately), but for some reason I really really really thought all my stuff was going into climate controlled storage. My bad.

Unfortunately I can't drive it down at this point because I drove my car down when I went and it's there now, so I'm resigned to the mercy of the airlines for the return trip next week.

This is all *decent* stuff, but nothing ab-so-spec-fvcking-tacular, so I guess I will just move myself along the path to Betty Ford and gift what's left on Monday.

Argh.

But, let's put this in perspective, to paraphrase TGal, talk about "First World Problems"!!!

I think someone needs to throw herself a blowout moving away party.

I'm sorry you can't bring it all with you, but this sounds like a good excuse to do some tastings once you get to your new home!

LOL Haven -- I had a blow out before I went that involved 40 bottles of champagne and god only knows how much wine, beer and misc booze!

That's perfect--that means everyone knows how awesome your party will be, so they'll definitely show up for another one!

Def don't store it in the hot storage unit as it will be ruined (have had it happen :(( )

See if there is a wine storage place that you can put it in til you have time to move it to your new place. We have our wine in professional storage now and it's very good that way. Hopefully there is a wine storage place somewhat nearby your location.

WINE PARTY!!!! :saint: :lickout: :saint:

Can you take it to the nearest Pac n Ship place? Give them your new address, they'll box it up and all that, and it'll be there in a few days.

I'd hate to see you loose 4 cartons of red wine - especially if it is fairly good stuff!!! You can drink some - but I doubt you'd make much of a dent between now and monday --- and still be able to function! I'd go with a fedex/shipping option and have it sent to the new place.

But I am another one of those self-sacrificing PSers, who would be available to assist you with your party dilemma... yes... I would be willing to drink your wine for you, just as a civic service to a diamond buddy in need. I'm *that* kind of giving friend! :naughty:

Way to take one for the team Enerchi!

That's me - HUGE team player!! I give give give till it hurts! Never want to let a buddy down.... :wink2: You know, when it comes to sacrifices like that, know I am here for any one of you! (I'm also available to eat your rich and gooey desserts - caramel is my specialty consumption skill, as well as Carrot cake with cream cheese icing!)

I'll help!

Deejay- it makes me SO SAD to think about you having to give up your wine collection. I faced the same issue of transporting it when I moved. We had 3 cases of really decent stuff that I didn't want to chance so it took up a lot of space in my car (along with paintings and kitties) on my way across the country. I hope you figure out a way to make it work! UPS Store and other stores like that often have wine bottle packaging (provided your state and MO are places where you can ship booze from/to).

Well sheeeeet...

I had a moment of panic ( :o ) last night when I mentioned to my friends that all my stuff will be in a super hot warehouse for a few months and they were like, um, you know every piece of furniture you own will be ruined, right?

So then there was a glimmer of hope ( :appl: ) this morning when the movers came this morning (not to be confused with the packers, who where here yesterday) and they said, "Oh, no, ma'm, we take wine all the time."

And THEN I got a call back from the lady in charge (in respone to my panicked voicemail of last night after the "ruined" conversation) and she said actually my stuff will be in a "warehouse" that is not considered *climate controlled* in the technical terms of storage places, but that the warehouse is a "reasonable" temperature and that people are actually working in there on a daily basis so it can't be THAT hot. ( :)) )

BUT... the wine would not survive the trip in the truck, which typically takes 4-7 days. And the truck will be HOT HOT HOT. ( :blackeye: )

As always, I appreciate the ourpouring of loyalty and support from my dear PS friends. Please feel free to come any time, as I will be sitting here in an empty house for the next three days. Well, empty except for 46 bottles of wine. ( :cheeky: )

Cheers!!! :lickout:

46 bottles of wine on the floor (I assume you have no shelves!), 46 bottles of wine...
Take one down, pass it around,
45 bottles of wine on the floor.

As a big PS family, we could get through that stuff in no time. Enerchi's not the only one willing to give her time and liver capabilities for the good of the team. :naughty:
