We just had a woman die here because they refused to treat her and take her seriously at the ER, and she wouldn't leave, so they called the cops, and she died from blood clots. I'd say her family will clean the hospitals clock, and the Police Departments for ignoring her the same and leaving her to die.

ame, i had heard about that one also. she showed up at ER and she was relatively young. not taken seriously. taken by the police and she died in a cell within about 15 minutes. unbelieveable.

This and the case about the veteran are extremely disturbing. These are supposed to be the people we go to when we need help, and this is what they do.... :nono:

Wow, just wow. Have these kind of things always been going on and we were not aware, or is this a new phenomena, where authority egregiously oversteps its bounds?

I don't understand why the police would have such an axe to grind with a 68 year old with a heart condition. Boggles my mind and scares me as to what we've become.

I have a serious issue with how veterans of all ages are treated in this country. They give up their lives to keep us "safe" and when they come back here, there are no jobs for them, no one respects them, the health system they have is absolutely a joke and they have little to no support for dealing with what they saw and did over there under orders. This is just one more of the millions of vets that are not revered for their heroics that just falls through the cracks.

Oh, lordy, I try not to think about these things because it upsets me. But it's getting out of hand, so I feel I should say;

#!-There are certain types of people attracted to jobs of power and authority such as police officer. The VAST majority of them are normal people that protect and serve us all. But there are a percentage, that IMHO, are attracted to the idea of carrying a gun and having control over other humans. Corporations give personality evaluations all the time, I think we need some weeding out of the nut jobs before we call them cops and give them guns.

#2- There is no doubt IMHO that racism is at play in these incidents. The issue is that, as John Stewart put it, the "white guys get the benefit of a doubt." Do you think a black man could have shot someone in the face on a hunting trip the way Cheney did? Why does Cheney get the "pass"? Because he is white and powerful. Do you think this nut job cop would have tasered and then shot a white man with his hands at his sides? No, I don't think so.

#3-The amount of covering up done by the cops reminds me of the covering done by Catholic church for pedophile priests. They are covering up crazies that have no business being in the positions they are in.

This disgusts me and makes me sick. This is the 21st century and we are still shackled by . . . what? What the hell is the problem? Is it fear? Is it hatred? Is it anger? Sick individuals, with rage issues and sloppy impulse control, in positions they shouldn't be in? WHAT is the PROBLEM?!! :(

And why, dear God, can't we seem to solve it? :(sad

Yup.

I have a higher standard of care for cops. Since they are so protected by our laws, I feel they have a greater responsibility than average citizens to act in a moral and lawful way. Unfortunately, some cops feel that the protection of the law means immunity from them for their own conduct.

This is just insane. I can't imagine a fact pattern that justifies what the cops did. First, they had NO RIGHT OF ENTRY. Just because you are a cop doesn't mean someone has to even answer the door to you. No warrant: no entry. Right to privacy against state intrusion (and the cops are the representatives of the state) for God's sake. There is no exigent circumstance when the guy tells you through the freaking DOOR that he's FINE and that the call was a mistake!

And then to shoot the guy with ANYTHING after you break into his house illegally! But first a bean bag, THEN a taiser and .... HEART CONDITION. This makes me see red. Public outcry here I can support. Those cops still have their badges and are walking around!

I'd like to see that video.

He is on tape. He SAID they were going to come in there and kill him, and that's just what they did. Evil (can't say this word). :angryfire:

really sad case... :angryfire:

i've heard his son interviewed several times. there are alternative news sources that are keeping this in their spotlight. but where is mainstream media?! this guy served his country as a Marine. he was a retired correctional officer. when he said they were going to come in and kill him, he knew what he was talking about.

i too hold cops to a higher standard. i also say that they work for us. it is our taxpayer $'s that pay their salaries. we're not getting what we pay for, imo.

and deep down in my heart i believe that if he had been white this would not have happened to him.

Well said iLander. This is just outageous and tragic.

That is a truly tragic case, just as the Martin one is as well. I hope that for the sake of everyone, and especially for the family, justice is served. I hope the family finds peace.

I could not agree more with you Ame. Our contry spends billions on war, how about more support for our soldiers when they come home?
