I had to put Oliver in time out this morning. He tried to tackle my oldest cat Pete(7 years) and hung on by his teeth. Poor Pete only cried cause he knew that Oliver is too little to really fight back.
He sounds like a bit of a terror Our cats weren't too happy when we brought a kitten home, they have so much energy and no respect for the others' boundaries! They taught him quickly though
What a sweet looking little monster he is. Love him. I know what you mean about letting them go. We did rescue for years and I STILL miss three of the cats that were 'ours' for a short time and wish I'd kept them (even though I know they are in great homes with people who love them).
Awww is right! If he keeps being naughty, the other cats should eventually get fed up & teach him his manners. They know he's a babe & by nature usually take care of that stuff. You can help by sometimes picking him up & giving him a scolding as you did -- but he'll develop some respect for the grownup felines as he gets experience with them. I adopted the same sort of little wild animal & Meat Loaf, my older cat, is the most gentle sweet soul ever born -- but he taught the little guy his p's & q's & they are the very very best of friends now, sleep together, groom each other, play, etc. Oliver is so adorable & I bet will be a beauty!
He's adorable! Best of luck! Looks like he has a good home if you can't find his owner!
It's so funny hearing the older cat teaching the kitten stories because we just had one cat growing up and didn't get to see her interact with other cats. It's similar to our house, where my older dog taught my younger dog all the house rules when we adopted her and still reminds her who's boss!
I have had to get out the squirt bottle. He inst so bad with the other cats if they don't run. They growl or hiss and then run which makes Oliver want to chase. If they just lay about he will pounce a tail and then move on. He seems to not have learned anything except he leaves them alone while they eat.
He is such a baby. Cries while he is in time out and refuses to take a nap when he needs one. I try and tire him out, but like a toddler he is the worst when he is tired. When he finally lands and falls asleep he sleeps for about 4 hours. I try a light spanking and a stern "NO", but he is usually so stinking fast!
I haven't gotten to the other neighbor yet. He will have to go to the vet soon and once I spend that $ he will be mine regardless.
Radiantquest, as you may know from your other cats, they will all settle down ok in time. It can take cats 6 months to get used to a new family member -- they HATE change, very much creatures of habit. And as Oliver grows up a bit he will stop the perpetual motion. My Joe Don was so similar -- I wasn't sure who was gonna get murdered first, me or him, for a very long time. It happened slowly, as it does with children, but he calmed down & is fine now, though one of the stupidest cats I've ever had.
If you can play with him & give him toys to keep him occupied some -- you probably already are doing this -- it helps a bit. Otherwise, it's up to your other cats to teach him what's over the line & unless somebody looks like being injured, interference by humans is useless. It can slow things down by "protecting" the adults from reaching the point of "OK, this is IT, take THAT, Oliver!"
Easier said than done, I know from experience. He will grow out of it & they all will arrive at a workable solution, keep telling yourself that. Doesn't seem so now, but it is true!
