Ok I do not knwo what they are called but they are those things people have out at weddings for people to put cash and checks and such into.

My question is, do you have to have one of these things?

In my home circle of friends and family it is customary for guests to send gifts, including money, to the Bride''s home. No present tables card boxes etc. Out here, and in FI circle, I am told the norm trends more towards bringing the gifts to the wedding.

Ok so not a big deal, a little inconvenient for us (and them IMO) but if people want to give us gifts, then how they are given really is not important. The venue can just set up a table with a liner or something. But what about cards? What happens to them if I dont have a box thingy?

get a box thingy.

otherwise the guests will probably carry them around for awhile, ask someone (your dad or his mom or someone random) who they can give it to, eventually leave it somewhere random or with a family member, and then you'll have a million (or a dozen) cards in a bunch of different places AND you'll have other people sort of being responsible for your cards which you probably don't really want. and you definitely don't want people just leaving cards on the table - as sad as it is i've heard way too many stories about random people 'lifting' cards from weddings.....not worth the risk! you can get a birdcage thingy for less than $20 with a coupon from joanns, and the boxes are even cheaper.

you don''t even have to put money into that--find an old shoe box, cut a slit in the lid, wrap it with pretty wrapping paper, and TADA! card box.

Yep we are having one. I had to convince my MIL to be that no, we did not need the money cage that looks like cinderella''s pumpkin being pulled by horses.

Something simple is fine - but yes, you should put something out so it is easy for your guests!
