This is just heart breaking. Sky has been missing since November 6 and the whole thing just feels so WRONG.

Why haven't the police arrested the mother? Can't they arrest her for something like negligence or endangerment? I'm not familiar with all of the policies and what rights a person has in custody or not in custody. Would they be able to actually speak with her if she was in custody and maybe require a polygraph?

Is this normal? The whole thing just seems off.

Yesterday's update (with a bit more detail): http://www.king5.com/news/cities/bellevue/No-arrest-imminent-in-Sky-Metalwala-disappearance-133902548.html

Quick summary:

The mother was supposedly taking Sky to the hospital because he was sick when she "ran out of gas". She left him alone in the car with the doors unlocked and walked a mile with her 4 year old daughter to a gas station. About an hour later, she got back to the car and he was missing.
The car drove just fine for police (no problems with it).
The mother is refusing to take a polygraph and hasn't spoken with police since the day Sky disappeared.
She had left him alone in the car (in the parking lot of a store) as an infant for over an hour and police were called.

Well, who would leave a 2 year old alone in a car? I feel that this is probably a lie.

I agree. Other than common sense saying you NEVER leave your child alone in a car (let alone to walk over a mile away!) -- the police tested the car and it drove fine (had gas, no mechanical problems). They also searched around the car and in/around her apartment -- there was no gas can.

My office is very close to where her car "ran out of gas" and I drive right past the mother's apartment complex every day.

I really really hope that little boy is found safe.

I wish this was an isolated incident, but about 200 mothers each year in the US kill their children. That doesn't count children killed by dads, stepparents, boyfriends and girlfriends. Just this year I've been following the cases of Kyron Horman, Lisa Irwin, and Tyler Dasher, whose mother was just arrested.

That's why I try not to be too critical of Nancy Grace-she stays on top of these stories.

I can't wait for Tyler Dashers mom to rot. I live about a mile from where she lives and where he was found, if only I could go into a room with that little brat for 5 minutes.

Im pissed she's only getting charged with 2nd degree. She dumped that baby's body, and THAT was planned out. She might have been drunk or high when she lost her mind and killed him, but to get rid of him and plant a whole fake story? That's worthy of 1st degree. She shows like zero remorse in anything filmed of her. She was LAUGHING when she was with the officers ON CAMERA more than once.

Re. the arrest - I do not know enough about the case, and we have lawyers on this panel, but it is my understanding, that to arrest someone, there has to be a proof (a body, a kid smuggled over the boarder, etc). So far, since nothing and no one has been found, there is no legal reason to make any arrests. Usually in these cases lawyers are involved... Mother refused the polygraph, but even if she agreed, the results are still inadmissible in court, and there are tons of ways to invalidate its readings. Too many dead ends so far.

Every day I drive past the board with the hotline number. I feel very bitter because as time goes by, the chances of finding a toddler are getting slimmer and slimmer.
