Hi I am new to this forum..hopefully you can help me out here..my boyfriend has a miners cut diamond that he got from his grandmother...after she died..a long time ago... he wants to put it in my engagement ring BUT thinks that its going to cost tons of money to do this. The size of the diamond is .68 ...any ideas??

Why would it cost any more than any other diamond?

It depends on the diamond and on the jeweler.

The asymmetry and/or depth/width ratios of some miner's cut diamonds could make it harder to set them in stock settings or baskets. I have about 10 miner's cut diamonds in their original settings, and I'd guess that two of them fall into this category. That doesn't mean it couldn't be done, just that it would require a bit more skill on the part of the jeweler, or maybe a custom head. I also have a pair of earrings made of miner's cut stones set in stock modern settings, so I also know that it is possible to use stock settings. If the grandmother's stone was the center stone in a ring or pendant, chances are it's fairly symmetrical and could be re-set at a reasonable cost.

Good luck!

I''m sure it''s a lovely diamond. Check out James Meyer...he loves working with OMCs and does some beautiful bezel work that really sets off the stone!
