Well, we all went to dinner last night and we got on the subject of a wedding that we are attending in June. The bride is the daughter of my IL''s friends. It is a senator''s son, so will be somewhat "High Society", but none of the kids (DH, BIL, or SIL) have spoken to this girl since middle school, over 10 years ago.

We started talking about how long we will be staying and MIL mentioned staying thru Monday. DH''s sister asked why we wouldn''t fly back Sunday, and MIL''s reply...

"Well, we have been invited to the family gathering on Sunday, after the wedding, so we will have to attend that..."

(This is where my teeth nearly shattered from clamping together...)

REALLY?!?!? You HAVE to attend THIS family get together after the wedding, but you didn''t see the need to come to OURS, at my parents house, the morning after your OWN son''s wedding?!?!?!?!?!?

Vent over... Thank you for letting me say that.

LOL! It was a dinner with SIL boyfriend who was in from out of town... and DH would have left a gash in my leg from a kick I did not want to receive.

On my way into work, I thought about whether or not I should ask her about it, and decided that I think 5 months later is a bit too late to bring it up. I thought that venting on here would be fine, and realized that I am actually probably glad that she didn't come by, because it was obvious she didn't want to... and would have been obvious to my entire family as well.

Me thinks, (I'm about 99.9% positive), the only reason we are even going to this wedding is because she is hoping that she will get to see and meet some "famous" people.

We are flying 6 states away, and are staying for the entire week leading up to the wedding, AND the day after, in her words, " For all of the 'Events' of the week that we have been invited to."

She is definitely more excited about this wedding than ours. Ohh, and she is insisting that we take our 2 month old along... LOL!

I'm just looking forward to a beach vacation in the NE with hubby and our little baby

That is totally ridiculous. Sounds like your MIL is more worried about what other people think than about her own kids' weddings

What are you going to tell her? If it were me, I would just have DH make up some excuse (and won't you have a kid then? I would totally blame the kid for having to get home earlier

) Can you just take different flights?

On another note, this wedding sounds like the one in Wedding Crashers. Maybe you'll get lucky and Vince Vaughn will show up.

I forgot about this thread, but I do have an update.

Currently, we are no longer staying thru Monday. I was talking with her about the trip yesterday and she mentioned coming back on Sunday, so I *HAD* to ask... and she told me that she talked with FIL and decided that just becuase we were invited didn''t mean that we had to stick around.

Sorry I missed your post! She really has gotten better since we told her that we were pregnant, it is just something about this wedding and everything surrounding it that is making her a little crazy again.

We are going to be in Nantucket. I am just looking forward to visiting a new beach with DH and our little one! I''ve never been to one that far north. My furthest beach on the East coast has always been Virginia Beach.

Mer- Nantucket is beautiful.... New England in general is so you will have a fabulous time with your DH and your new addition!!!!!
