Wedding Memorial mention - chinese characters?

I was thinking of not having any mention of those loved ones who have passed away, but my aunt died yesterday and I''m changing my mind. I don''t want a big display, but I wanted to put something in the program to the effect of:

"To those who couldn''t be here today - John, Sally, Ruth, and Sue - we miss you and love you always."

And like everything I seem to want to do lately, what I thought would be simple has not turned out to be. I can''t very easily include my grandparents without his, but according to him, his grandparents "never had English names" (family is from Taiwan). He thinks if I put phonetic spellings, people won''t understand who that refers to. And he does not think there is a way to get Chinese characters as a font or on the internet. I don''t know if this is true or if it is just laziness and not wanting to have to ask his mother about it.

I really don''t want to scrap the whole idea now, because it would really mean a lot to my uncle and cousins to see their wife/mom''s name somewhere at the wedding. She had been perseverating somewhat on the fact that she was not going to be around to see my wedding since she was diagnosed with cancer this winter. But I don''t feel like I can just include her just because she''s the most recent one to pass away.

Anyone with a Taiwanese or Chinese background have any ideas?

I can''t help you with the Chinese/Taiwanese translation of names, but I did want to say I''m sorry to hear about your Aunt. (hug)

I know you don''t want to do anything "big" but I''m having a little table at the reception w/a photo of the loved one and a single rose in front of the picture. I then am having a single votive candle lit in near the frame as well. Sorry to hear about your loss. *hugs*

I''m sorry to hear about your aunt and you and your family have my condolences. I don''t know how much this will help but I have a couple of family members who have this program which came with a writing pad. All they have to do is write on the pad the chinese character and it comes up on programs like word. I don''t know the name of the program but I imagine it is something like pen power

We''re having deceased asians from my side and americans from his side. We''re doing the same type of thing. Our officiant will mention ''those that passed and couldn''t be with us'' then there will be a table with photos, candles etc. Makes it easier. My poor officiant was struggling some of the pronunciations heh. We thought the blanket statement was best.

And ditto to the above posts, you can change the language on your computer or get a program. It''s not too tough.

I am so sorry about your Aunt''s passing.

I use it with my students to get their Chinese names, it is just a phoenetic, not a root meaning translation, but I paste it into word or make it into a pdf on my mac and we can play with sizes but not fonts...but my computer has four different Mandarin fonts that were just part of the basic package, you might also and not even know it.
Good luck with this thoughtful tribute idea.
