Makes the Happy Meal not so happy. That''s awful.

What''s the world coming to?? Don''t people check referances anymore.

That''s messed up. I do wonder where they''re supposed to work, because I''m sure they''re not desirable at ANY workplace and it''s probably hard for them to get jobs....but someplace like McDonalds where kids frequent regularly? Uh, don''t think so. I wonder if it''s just McDonalds though. What about the others?

Convicted child molesters aren''t even supposed to go to places that children would be present let alone work there.

I wish I could say it was... but I dont think so. They are tempted, and many of them lie on their applications. It does makes we wonder about the Parole Officers...why are they allowing them to work at such a place; I think they would be better suited to office work, or mechanics or whatever.

Though I will say not all offenses are equal, knowing someone who was 18 and sleep with their 15 year old girlfriend (dating 2 or 3 years) and landed in jail...I dont think he is a pedophile, just someone who showed very poor judgement.

I think many get lost in the system and there is no way to keep track of them. they are the ones who are supposed to update their address whenever they move..yeah..right, just like the Dewey fellow in Florida who was working as an elementary school janitor

. I agree mat, jobs where there is limited or no contact with children would be best.

I didn''t realize they weren''t tracked that well. I know there are registries where you can look up where you live and see if any are nearby. But I didn''t know that the offenders themselves are supposed to update their info...doesn''t that spell trouble?!?!?!

yep. there is some sort of debate going on right now where they are trying to get together a National Registry and keep better track. Many oppose this because they think it's being unfair to the "victims" who commited the crimes to be blackballed for life and do not want us to track them after they have served their time. Absolutely Ridiculous IMO and I hope the real victims rights will be the ones that will be protected, but who knows..I don't trust our congress one bit to do anything that's good for the people

Our local paper posts pics of child molesters that have been released from prison and haven''t registered yet. Just in case they come to this area, we''ll know.

Yeah, I agree. I think the public has more of a right to be protected than the criminal him/herself. True, they did serve time but are they rehabilitated? Even the ones that have been chemically castrated or whatnot...that doesn''t mean they can''t do something else that''s horrible...like child **** or something else. (I''m focusing on pedophiles here.) I kinda think that, by the very nature of the crime, it''s more important to protect the public and the children than the criminal.

there's a website out there where you can put in your address and see a list of registered offenders and where they live relative to you, i did it one day and it was really interesting to see what was around us. it also lists what their offenses were so you can see, aka it will say more than just 'minor'..it will be a bit more specific.

we had one up our street and one a few blocks down, interestingly enough the one a few blocks down was about 1 block away from an elementary school and part of the law (in CA at least) is that they cannot live, work, etc within a certain mile radius of schools and the like. so it made me wonder, who polices this thing?? do they even check??

Mara that''s the law here in TN too. They aren''t supposed to live, eat, work, etc within so far of children.

oh i just found the website again for CA people:
http://www.meganslaw.ca.gov

you can put in your address and it shows a map with a blue square for the registered people. also it just says things like ''lewd acts with minor under 14''...so i guess there is the under 14 thing and then over 14 (aka maybe more like the example where an 18 year old sleeps with his 15 year old GF or something).

it even has pictures and information on the people, don''t spend too much time on it because it feels pretty disturbing.

Just in case you were wondering if there were any living by you :

http://www.familywatchdog.us/Default.asp

It shows where they live a picture a lot of the times and what the offense was. Also a good tool to use if you are moving or a real estate agent to show your clients the area is "clean"

kinda freaky though seeing so many out there

Oh btw, the link above is for any sex offenders not just child predators but it does tell you what type of offense they committed
To use it just put your address in the comp and it comes up with a map of the surrounding area and the places where they live

thanks for the links Mara and familystone. I checked out my neighborhood before we moved in. We are 5 blocks from and elementary school. There wasn''t anything majorly disturbing in my area, the places I''d walk my dog, but it is disturbing to see so many not that far away really. The whole thing is so sickening and I wish Jessicaslaw would pass in all 50 states.

ya side note is a few states don''t participate in the above link (PA being one of them)

I know, I just checked and am furious about PA not participating.

Ya, My mom''s whole side of the family is from PA and they were annoyed when I sent them the Link also

Holy MOG it is scary to see how many sex offenders are nearby. I surfed awhile but had to stop - it is more than a little disconcerting.
