Married ladies, has your ring size changed during the years?

Hello all

I have a question regarding ring sizes... We are going to buy wedding bands next month and even though I fell in love with one channel set eternity band, I am trying to find a perfect plain metal band for me for two main reasons:

1. Channel set will attract attention where I live (before I move to the States, anyways)/when I travel, and I'd like to be able to wear my wedding band anywhere
2. An eternity channel set wedding band will not be resizeable in the future

My first "problem" can be solved by having two wedding bands, of course. It is unheard of where I come from, but you learn while you live and I picked up this lovely option here.



Which leaves the second reason. Now... The wedding is in 6 months and I do plan to lose weight by then (don't we all?), but even with my current and constant weight fluctuations I have been wearing same rings (same size) all this time. Sometimes they fit more snugly, sometimes more loosely but this happens during the day too. Right now, my engagement ring is spinning easily but it will not fall off for sure. Once it gets over my knuckle it's safe.


Pregnancies excluded, how much has YOUR ring size changed during the years? Is this something that should worry be and that should be held in mind when picking a wedding band or am I over-thinking this?

I went from a 4.75 on my ring finger to a 5.75. If I lose some weight I will go comfortably to 5.25, but I think since having kids I will not see 4.75 again. Mainly because I was *very* small before kids (I was a professional dancer) and even when I'm trim now, I'm not going to be near the weight I was when I was performing.

But I did know this when I got engaged....to a certain extent. My original ring was a size 5 to allow for fluctuation. Then because my wedding band is not sizable (etoile) I went to a 5.5 figuring that a. it would be held on by the ering, and b. with weight gain I would always be able to wear it even if the ering got too small.

After kids I did get the ering sized to a 5.5.

oh yea....I went from a 7 to a 8.5 but I gained weight...if I lose weight it would probably go back down to a size 7 or 7.5...I have been married 28 years this coming May.

I'm mid-thirties, so take this with a grain of salt (ie: you may want to hear also from older ladies)...but my ring size actually went DOWN after having kids (I have three, oldest is 6). I've managed to return to my dating / pre-baby weight each time, but after the first pregnancy, my finger size shrank! Went from size 5 to 4.5, maybe even a little smaller.

I think the reason for me was a massive pregnancy weight gain and subsequent loss each time. NOT recommended, lol.

Anyways, just wanted to add another perspective! I think/hope/plan my finger size will now remain relatively constant; I always try to keep my weight stable. Only issue would be if I get some sort of ailment as I age that could cause the joint to enlarge...

Fingers crossed! No pun intended.

Married over 26 years and my rings were 7 to start. Now they are 7.5-8. It happens.... Life plays these little tricks on your body and I've had 3 kids.

My friend also lost more weight after having kids than she gained... She said they sucked it all out with breastfeeding.

Urgh. I guess this is something I can't really anticipate. Mrs. Taylor seems to have done the best possible thing with her rings. Also, both my mother and maternal grandmother have rheumatic arthritis so it's fairly certain I'll get it too at some point.

I was a size 7 when I got married. I've gained quite a lot of weight the past few years and now i'm a size 8.

In my mid 50s, married over 22 years, ring size 4.75 never changed.

I have a 4.75 ring finger and it hasn't changed in the 7.5 years I've been married. However, I have to really hope it doesn't because none of my wedding rings are resizable.

I went from a 6 to a 7. Although during my pregnancies problably to an 8.

I went from a 6 to a 7 in 30 yrs of marriage. Probably back to a 6.5 now after losing a bunch of weight. It's not my fingers themselves, but my knuckles that are bigger -- can get my original wedding ring up to the knuckle fine, but it won't go over it. Ever again! Housework, gardening, you name it.

You don't want a band to drive you crazy turning all the time; just don't get it snug on your finger. As to rheumatoid arthritis & stuff like that years from now -- don't worry about it. Who knows what'll happen? If it does, it's a great excuse to buy yourself new bling!

Mine only has in the knuckle. My knuckles are growing as I age and it's kind of lame. My mom's did the same, and while she had kids in the meantime, I don't plan to, and they are already expanding exponentially!

I got all my best / most important rings after my first pregnancy, so I didn't have to size anything down. Even now I think I have only two that are size 5, but I never wear them so probably won't bother sizing down.

Even my size 4.5 rings spin when I am too cold, which I think is normal for some people. When that happens, either I just wear them like that, or add another band to snugify things a little.

It's hard to know if/how one's finger size may change over time; I think what some people do is only choose settings that can be sized at least a little (just in case). IE: don't choose a full eternity style.

Thanks for this. I didn't know what the name in English is exactly so I just translated it from my native language.

It's hard to know if/how one's finger size may change over time; I think what some people do is only choose settings that can be sized at least a little (just in case). IE: don't choose a full eternity style.

30 years of marriage. Went from 5 1/4 to 5 3/4. My original wedding set did not last. The gold setting was bent after about 15 years. I wouldn't expect a setting or wedding ring to last a lifetime. They do wear, get bent, and misshapen.

No change for me for about 25 years and then as the hormones changed, the weight crept up some! I was always pretty thin so it was a surprise when my metabolism changed! Original size 4.75, now wear 5.5. I never changed sizes after having babies, it was much later than that. I do think if you talk to people married over 30 years, you'll find that many have had some change in their finger size.

Married for 10+ years. Started with a size 4 wedding band, which I still wear. I think I am actually a 4.25, but I can get the 4 off and on. I bought a 4.5 eternity, and it is too easy to take off.

I was a size 5 1/2 when I got married. My finger size did not change after having two kids. After 30 years of marriage I have gone up to about a 6 1/4 on my wedding ring finger even though I weigh about the same as I did when I got married.

Yes, by about half a size but it does mean that my original (unsizeable) engagement is no longer comfortable to wear. Wish I had thought about that when we were having it made.

Over the last 12 years my ring size (6 on the left and 6.25 on the right) has remained the same and I am hoping it will continue to do so as I have a few eternity rings. I have arthritis in my hands though so I am concerned but so far so good. You can never really predict the future and I say go for what your heart desires. I know I vacillated between getting an eternity for my ER and WB for this very reason and I decided to go for it because if you don't get what you really want you will regret it and you only live once.

In 26 years of marriage, virtually nothing--or maybe a 1/4 of a size? My original wb fits I just don't wear it cuz of it's square style.

After one baby, my ring size went from a 5.5 to a 6.5. Hopefully it won't go up again.

Married for 15 years, mid 40's, no kids. My ring size started out as a 5 and is now a 4.75.

I think you've made the right decision Ivana - I've been married 27 years and my ring size went down a little even though I've gained some weight - I offer my experience to show that you just don't know what's down the road, so hard to predict what will happen years from now, so I agree with enerchi that it's just too hard to plan for the distant future and you might as well just get what works for you now!

Going off-topic here - would you mind sharing the breed of the dog in your avatar? I don't know much about dog breeds - and the doggie in your avatar has one of the sweetest faces I've ever seen!!

I lost about 20 pounds from my baseline in high school, then gained it back along with about 15-20 lbs since I graduated over 10 years ago, and my ring size didn't change through any of that. I just don't gain or lose weight in my hands. I think it really depends on the individual. I've never been pregnant, though.

I'm not even married yet (been engaged just under a year) and my engagement ring is about a size too big after loosing weight. I would love an eternity style wedding band but I know I might put some or all of that weight back on or I could loose more so I'm doing a 3/4 style eternity band and I will size down my E-ring probably 1/2 a size before the wedding.

I've been married just over 3.5 years, had the ring for about 5. My weight has stayed about the same and so has my ring size. My ring size does fluctuate with the seasons though. I can wear anywhere from a 5.5 to a 6.5 depending on the season. I don't expect to be the same ring size forever, if it goes up or down. I never wanted anything "eternity" for this reason. I just can't imagine spending serious money on a ring that can't be sized, it just seems silly to me unless you can afford to buy a new one whenever.
