So I am filling out my marriage license online (yay for california) and they wont let me proceed without entering my father''s name and place of birth. I don''t know this information. Neither does my mom. We know his first name and that he was born in Germany. Thats it. Hope that is going to be enough for them. I am using my passport as my identification so there should be no question of who I am...

I know that stuff like this is usually used for additional identification verification and such. Plus it seperates out alot of the John Smith''s of the world. But expecting people to know both their parents...thats asking alot this day in age. Ok maybe just alot from the hippy commune I am from (aka New Hampshire). lol.

Maybe you can just enter ''unknown'' into those fields, that should at least let you proceed with the application?

I feel like they must have some sort of procedure for cases like yours. I''m sorry that they gave you a hard time!

I am not from CA, but my fiance had the same problem. He just left father information blank and the town clerk didnt question it. Our priest also reveiwed the marriage license and he didnt say anthing either. Best of luck and Im sure everything will be fine.

When I was applying for my license in CA, I had a few questions about filling the the forms and in my experience the county clerk''s office was VERY nice about answering the phone AND answering my questions. I would just give them a call.
