I went camping in the anza borrego desert this weekend...and I still managed to find a jewelry purchase. I must be a pricescoper! While driving around the nearest town (very small), we managed to see a little old lady who was having a yard sale. I bought a 24k gold dipped necklace that was handmade buy someone in mexico for 50 cents!!! It's a bit of an odd piece of jewelry, but I love it.

In case you are curious about the trip...

I enjoy camping, but I'm used to midwest forrest/lake camping, desert camping was pretty new to me. I saw a few more creepy crawlers than I was prepared for. I'll attach a couple of pictures of a poisonous baby copper head snake and a scorpian hanging out together. Scorpians were ALL over the place!!! There was even one behind the toillet at the camp site when I went to the bathroom at about 1am before bed. Very scary!!! I was surprised at the different colors of scorpians I saw. Some were tanish, some were green, some were beige, very interesting...but I'm done with scorpians and snakes for a while!

Thanks for letting me share.

Here are the pics of the 50 cent necklace purchase!!

That is a really cool necklace, particularly for 50 cents.

I think I''d have wanted to go home after seeing the creepy crawlers. You must be quite a trooper.

quite a deal for fifty cents! and if I saw those things, I think I would mess my pants and demand to go home!!!!

Thanks, I think it''s a unique piece of jewelry with a cool memory attached to it.

I am a trooper...but this was a little more than I bargained for with all of the creepy crawlers. I''m fine with big animals, moose, bear, etc. but I''m not so great with smaller critters like snakes and scorpians. Coyotes also got into our campsite and scattered all of our stuff, which is a bit irritating. Desert camping was also really really hot, a bit hard to sleep at night until it finally cooled down. It was an experience though.

Neat piece of jewelry, I love the curlies in it, and fabulous price!

Scary for you about going camping during the summer heat! Most of the 'desert people, sand dwellers' I know go during the 'winter' because you don't have those creepy crawlies. YUCK! (Not that it is ever really 'winter' there)

Those things are scary enough when you do have to come across them, I don't know many who go to the desert this time of year just from the sheer heat! I'm so glad you're safe!! :)
I think you are on to something SDL! I think it would have made a lot more sense to do the trip in the "winter." Sleeping would have been a lot easier. We managed to have a pretty good time despite the heat and the crawlers. The sights we saw were beautiful, just amazing!! The crawlers left us alone as long as we didn't bug them. I did get a little paranoid after a while though. I kept checking to make sure the tent was zipped all the way, and before going to sleep I checked my sleeping bag with a flashlight to make sure I didn't have any "friends" that were going to bite me in my sleep LOL!

Quite an adventure...I''ll say! No scorpions, thanks!! Cool hammered necklace. Way to find jewelry...anywhere!!!
