Just 2 days ago by DH & I adopted a little guy from the SPCA... They estimate that he is 3 1/2 months old & he is already neutured.

I don''t want to be stereotypical, but male cats seem to have this reputation for spraying. Is there anything we can do to prevent this? He has not shown any signs yet, although it has only been 2 days and we are keeping him in our mud room until he gets adjusted.

We had put a small cardboard box in with him to play in and today he peed in it in front of me. I took the box out and then he did #2 in his litter box. I am hoping this isn''t a sign that he may have issues... I think he was just confused.

We also have 2 female cats. I don''t know if this would encourage him to spray more.

Any advice or experience?!!

Congratulations on your new kitty! Please post some pictures of the little guy! Since he is neutered it is not likely he will start spraying.

Thank you... I am trying to post pics, but I have to figure out how to resize them!

Hi,

I don't think you should worry about him potentially spraying, at all, UNLESS he actually starts. Because he is already neutered, it is very, very unlikely that he will ever start.

I've adopted quite a few cats over the years, and only had a problem with spraying once, but it was so unusual. I had two male cats, and then introduced a third male who was an eight year old neutered siamese whose owner passed away, which is why he ended up in the shelter. He was an absolute love of a cat, and I adored him. He did not adore one of my other cats, and oddly, really bonded with my other cat (like snuggling, etc.) So, the siamese started spraying in the house. Uggh. So strange. I could not solve the problem, so I convinced my sister to take him. She had SIX cats at the time. He got along great with all of them and never sprayed again. It is so crazy, but we will never understand why animals sometimes get along with each other, yet completely reject another.

In your situation, you have such a young little guy, who is already neutered, I am confident you will NOT have a problem with him. My situation was really unusual, so much so that I probably should not have even mentioned it . . . but, I am feeling very chatty lately!!

Pictures please!

I think you will be just fine! It is very, VERY uncommon for neutered male cats (and especially cats neutered young) to spray.

So quit worryin''

and just enjoy your new, precious little guy! (And oh, we do love pictures around here... hint, hint!!!)

We had a fixed male cat who ONLY sprayed when there was another male cat in the house with him. After Sam was gone and we brought home Bella, Skye stopped spraying everything. Even so, I was told by my vet that our case was very rare. At one point we had three foster kittys with us (so five cats in an 1,100 sq ft house - yikes!

) and we had spraying problems because the territories of each cat were overlapping (aka not enough house for five cats!). I think you''ll be fine though and congrats on the new kitty!

Sorry I am trying. DH installed a new operating system on my comp and although the file size is small enough, pricescope says no go.

I''ll keep trying!

Thanks for all the advice though. Good to hear this little boy probably won''t have any problems
