I hardly EVER cook, or bake...

But today, as a surprise for DH I made brownies (from a box, but still, he''s going to faint) and I''m going to make pizza (with pizza dough from the supermarket).

Well, I was about to make the pizza when I read on the bag "flour hands lightly and pat on the dough..."

I have no flour! Do I need it? Can I substitute? Don''t want to run out to supermarket again!

Do you have cornmeal? If not then you do need a flour unless it isn''t sticky, is it sticky?

Hi skippy

I don''t know if it''s sticky yet...when I read on the bag that I needed flour I panicked and never opened it haahaha

I have yellow cornmeal, is that good?

Yellow cornmeal works. Stick your hand in and see how sticky it is; if it sticks to your hand try cornmeal but if it is too sticky then you will probably need flour. I would borrow some from a neighbor if you can. hehe Let me know if you have anymore questions. The surface you are working on needs a bit of cornmeal and your rolling pin.

OK, skippy, they''re in the oven!

On one of them the crust is HUGE hahaha Well, live an learn.

The cornmeal worked really well...it wasn''t that sticky though. Thankfully. I am NOT good at cooking, much less improvising if it doesn''t go EXACTLY as it should. haha

The second one looks a bit better...

But I''m sure, like most of my cooking, looks better than it tastes...

Well, thanks for the help and I hope you''re enjoying this evening!

Oh sure, I love helping people if I can! I love making homemade pizza, you will be a pro next time!! Whooo Hooo, thank you and glad it turned out great!

I know you do.

It would be so funny if PS had a "panel" of people - I could picture it with each person''s picture next to their name.

Skippy - the lending hand
Freke - the shoe freak
Gypsy - the flower maven
Haven - miss manners

hahaha

How did the pizza turn out? I bet it was yummy!

hahaha how cute!

Not that great. But that's what I was expecting, that's how most of my cooking goes.

First, the crust on the one I made with just onions (it's an Argentinean thing) was way too big/thick/deformed - although the onion part tasted good. The other one that I made with tomato sauce and peppers was better shape-wise - but I overcooked it so it was very hard. DH cut them and he had to put his whole body into it.

ahahahahh

They'll come out better next time! (maybe)

The brownies I haven't tried, but DH seemed happy with them and his glass of milk.

Oh, no but it sounds like you had fun making them. Trader Joes has a good dough in the fridge section. Yum to brownies and milk!!!

I definitely second the Trader Joe''s dough. I also have a round pizza pan that has holes in it (can find them frequently at Ross or Marshalls or TJ Maxx, etc for less than at Bed Bath Beyond) which is AWESOME for making dough that is crunchy at the bottom but not overdone. When you roll out the dough next time and put it in a pan, prick it with a fork so it won''t puff up to oblivion. I also bake the dough first for 10 minutes, then add the sauce and toppings and bake for another 10 min or so. I love making pizza with premade dough...takes most of the work out of it!

Love Tader Joe''s pizza dough. It is also great for calzones.

I totally agree; the hole pan is SO much better than a pizza stone. It cooks faster, has more crunch, and you don''t have to heat the pan like you do with the stone.

Hope it ended up tasting good!

oooh... good to know! We''ve been making pizza on one of the hole pans but everytime think we need to go buy a pizza stone. If you ladies like the pan better, I''ll spend my $$ on other kitchen goodies instead of the stone

Good tip, thank you! The crust looked monstrous on the first one.

Why do you bake for 10 minutes first, then add the ingredients?

Oh! My pizza pan has the holes in it too...

Skippy, I did have fun making it though...

I don''t think there are Trader Joe''s in South Florida...never seen one. I''ve seen Whole Foods though.

Mine definitely had too much crunch...is that an effect of overcooking it?

Well, if I can''t get it right next time I''m going back to Freschetta. hahahahh

I prebake the dough so the pizza comes out more crisp. If I don''t, it tends to be more soft and floppy. I have a pizza stone too but still prefer the pan with holes! If yours was too crisp, it was a little overcooked.

thanks, FG!

Hope you''re enjoying this beautiful Sunday...

I just made a marinade of parsley, mustard, soy sauce, etc., for flank steak that I bought for grilling. We''ll see how that comes out. Always an adventure when I cook.

Yum!!! I have a recipe for pizza dough if you like? I love making it; once you do it couple of times you will be a PRO!! hehe

Aren''t you proud of me skippy? No matter how many times I fail at cooking I keep trying it (although definitely NOT often).

Sure! I''ll take your dough recipe. Although I hope you won''t be disappointed if I end up never trying it - buying it Publix works fine for me hehe. But sometimes I do feel extra domestic, so you never know!
