Wedding Makeup Help...Please!

I need help...my wedding is four weeks from today and I''ve yet to figure out the makeup. I''ve had two trials. I hated the first and tolerated the second. I look like a child who got into my mother''s makeup. Everyone''s telling me that I NEED pro makeup because it''ll come across better in photos. I just don''t want to look like an idiot in person! The foundation is the worst part for me. I normally use Bare Escentuals and both trials they used liquid foundation which sort of grosses me out. On top of that, I have a "fuzzy" face (you know those really light white hairs along your jawline? please tell me i''m not the only one) and the liquid foundation sticks to it and makes me look hairy.

Is there anyone here who did their own makeup and is willing to share pro-pics? I''ve taken pics of myself after doing my own make-up but they tell me pro-pics will look different and I need more make-up. I''m so frustrated. Any ideas are welcome.

Roseg, use some gentle over-the-counter facial hair remover on that fuzz. I have the same problem, and after I use the remover, I feel I look immediately more polished.

Have you asked your make-up artists to use the same foundation you like? After all, you''re paying them for the application of the make-up, not to find the right formula for you.

Another idea...I use a spray-on foundation called ERA Face, by Classified Cosmetics. It''s used by makeup artist Carmindy, who is featured on the cable show What Not to Wear. I get it at a beauty-supply store (but I live in L.A., world capital of beauty supply for the entertainment industry). You can order it online, but you have to know what color you need. Applied properly, it''s very light and it DOES NOT rub off on clothes or run when you cry.

roseq: I can relate and empathize with you. No matter what you choose to do, know that a professional photographer can and will perform touch up on the photos. My daughter had a lot of makeup on but it didn't look like it in person, yet in the proofs it looks overwhelming.

I do recommend that you do some sort of foundation and blush and do up your eyes. What do you normally use on your eyes?

I hate foundation too so when I want to look more made up I use primer and then my everyday powder.

I suggest you ask to wear very neutral colos but just pack it on a little more than you normally would. A bright blush will make you look more made up in pics. That''s all you really need. Don''t use colors that you wouldn''t normally wear because then you won''t feel very comfotable in it.

yes, ask your photographer! if nothing else, maybe you could do your own makeup, go in, and have him or her take a pic or two of you just so you can see what the makeup would look like if you did it yourself. even if that can''t be arranged, your photographer can probably suggest how heavy an application to use and maybe even a good makeup artist with whom he or she has worked before.

Yes, yes, yes!! Absolutely find out what they suggest and what they do by way of touch up in final photos. My daughter''s will probably have to have hers touched down... It''s like the photographer shot in HighDef. It is wierd.

I regret both her and I from not doing our own makeup. I don''t know if it was just that particular make up artist or the colors, because the other girls had their make up done with us, but by a different artist. Lighting plays a huge role as well. Inside, or outside, light or dark...etc. Talk to the photographer with consideration to the time of day you will be shooting in and the conditions.

I''m not sure where in the country you are...but have you thought of threading your face? Threading is a way to remove hair by using strings to capture hairs (it''s like highly efficient tweezing). If you have any Indian or Middle Eastern friends, or are in a major city, it should be easy to find. It''s not rare in those cultures, to have your whole face threaded.

What about liquid foundation grosses you out? Was just curious...would you like to use mineral foundation instead? (it''s way harder to apply though! be forewarned)

I would try other makeup counters...and make sure you have pictures of makeup inspiration that you want. (i.e. smoky eyes, "blushing bride," vintage red lips etc.).

Also, some make-up just don''t have the right shades for all skin tones, and most make up counters (unlike a prof. makeup artist) don''t mix foundations to get the right shade.

So, don''t let them rush you...or you rush them. Matching your foundation to your skin (both type of foundation, and skin color) are extremely important. Go with a friend, or take a camera, have them apply the foundation with a broad stroke against your jaw line or cheek...and then walk out into daylight. See which color truly blends.

My electrolysis lady once told me it's better to cut the peach fuz on ur face with scissors than wax/pluck. It's a misconception that shaving, cutting hair or using depilatory creams makes hair darker. When hair grows in it appears darker at first cause the roots are a bit thicker but once it's grown in you would never see a difference pre and post cut. If I were you I would cut the hair or use the depilatory cream 2 days before the wedding and make sure you get special face stuff - otherwise you might get burned.... bad. You might want try something out first.

Have you ever tried MAC's studiofix? It is high coverage but goes on like a powder- looks much more natural than liquid fondation... And it comes in like a million colors. Most MAC stores do makeup for free as long as you purchase their products afterwards.... I would def. try calling your local MAC.

One last suggestion - there is also such a thing as tinted moisturizer. If you have a good complexion that doesn't need much cover-up tinted moisturizers give you just a little glow and look very natural.

I have never worn foundation nor intend to on my wedding day. my mother is a beautician and she says foundation is meant for older women and is actually very bad for younger women to put on every day (especially if it isn''t washed off at night). I guess it wouldn''t be bad to wear just on your wedding day. anyway, I would make an appointment with a beautician who will really study your skin and can give you advice on what to wear and a good way to take care of your little angel hairs.

As someone who has tried on about 20 different foundations in the last few months, I''ve been EXTREMELY impressed with Glo Minerals. And I usually HATE mineral makeup - Bare Minerals makes my face look ridiculously sparkly (looks great on my friend though). Anyway, I look and feel like I have no makeup on with this stuff, my skin is just really even.

Noel, no disrespect to your mom, but foundation is not just for older women. It is for anyone with less than perfect skin or skin with an uneven tone they want to even out, regardless of age. You are lucky not to have to wear it, I envy women who look beautiful with no makeup.

I would ask your photographer for makeup artist recommendations. Some of the best vendor recommendations I''ve gotten have come from other vendors.

As for hair removal... I''ve had a few entertaining threads on the issue, if you want to look them up. As you are four weeks out, I wouldn''t suggest getting to creative with new products.

Im interested in getting something that will stay on ALL day so i dont need to do re-touches.............. what exactly did you use (for everything makeup) and did it last all day?

i did my own makeup (after 2 - or was it 3? - unhappy trials). you can do a search pro pics on PS, and mine should come up. i also shared tips and what i used here.

Alicia, my wedding is not for another year, but I use this makeup every day for work. I really like it. NOTHING looks great on me all day because I have very oily skin, but I use blotting papers and sometimes a little powder, and the ERA face foundation provides sheer coverage that blends well (if not over-applied) and works really well for me.
