I couldn''t help from being a little offended when a friend of mine referred to my ring as "Mail Order." When you hear the term mail order, I think of QVC or old lady catalogues with clothes you can''t or wouldn''t want to buy in stores.

Have any of you experienced this kind of snobbery or prejudice with purchasing your jewelery through our internet vendors here on PS? I carefully explained to her beforehand that we purchased the ring through Whiteflash, a company that specializes in SuperIdeal Cut Diamonds. She still called it Mail Order. UGH!!

Am I being crazy by being upset by this??

Ignorance is bliss!

I had someone comment just today on what a gorgeous stone I have and asked where I got it. When I told herr online, she was SHOCKED. I tried to explain (futilely) that it is ideal cut, I got much more info on it for a better price than at any B&M around, etc) - felt like I was talking to a brick wall!

I felt frustrated, but at the same time I know what I have - and she was impressed!

I know what you mean when you say it''s like talking to a brick wall! People are so uneducated about diamonds. Every time I walk past the maul stores I feel like I should drag out those poor people and send em to pricescope!

Excuse me, mail order? Did you send off for it with three UPCs from your cereal box? Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me. A mentioned Pricescope to a friend of mine (male) he came online and is now convinced that the good people here from GOG, WF, Pearlmans....are all in something togehter and selling us CZs....

He is going to get her a ring from Reed''s or BBB. Oh well sometimes people dont want to know.

That''s hilarious that he thinks that. I''d just pull out my AGS certificate from my Whiteflash stone to any doubters. I feel sorry for his future fiancee. He could get such a better and BIGGER diamond for what he''ll be paying at BBB or any other maul store.

Their loss!

Just surious but what is her ring like? Does she have one? Any chance that she likes yours a bit more then she wants to?

Oh that would tick me off too!!

MAIL ORDER??!! Makes it sound cheap. Sounds jealous to me. Some people really get pleasure in putting down others to surpress their own envy. Don''t let it get to you - you know you have a great ring for an even greater price!

early i read were people thought another''s ideal diamond was a CZ. Now this?? Mail order?? come on! i was planning on telling people that my BF got it in Houston. if they ask why - i would say something like it was such a great deal or mention the no tax thing= that ought to get them upset they hadn''t thought about that!

I would be upset too. That is just a rude thing to say.

I had a "friend" make a snide comment in front of some other friends about ordering my diamond off the internet. I just responded, "twice as nice and half the price of the crap they sell in Zales" (which was where she got her diamond). She shut up and never said another word.

I can't believe someone would have the balls to say something like that about another person's personal property. Was he referring to your e-ring? I mean, that makes it even worse to call something with such sentimental value, a "mail order" ring. That's a total slap in the face and they should be ashamed.

I feel really sorry for his future fiancee as well. That poor girl is going to have to deal with someone whose completely ignorant and wasting hard earned money.

ETA: I never posted on your ring thread about how much I like your ring. It's very pretty and your honey should be so proud.

People who make remarks like that have no idea what they are missing out. It''s their loss...!!!

That''s fine if people turn up their noses at online purchases...more diamonds for MOI...and cheaper too.

Okay, Mara- totally tripping us out with the new avatar!!

Jelly- Your ring is beautiful. You know it, we know it, God knows it. Tell her to kiss your bling!

I agree with others that she is probably completely jealous or just one of those OBNOXIOUS people I talked about on Family & home. I am sorry she dissed your ring, but she obviously doesn''t know quality and good taste!!

Does it look anything like me? I wish my shoulders were that small in real life!!

Girl...as my cousin would say "shake the haterz off" hehhee

If your ring is what a ''mail order ring'' looks like, I''ll take two please!

Don''t let the negativity of others get to you and your happiness!!

It does look like you with the reddish highlights and everything.

All it is missing is her holding a little white Portia princess pooch.

God this girl was extremely rude and Jealous!!!! It is like my "girlfriend" who said to me years ago...."Wow....are those real diamonds??? Why did he buy you a silver ring? You don''t like gold?"Uh Umm....it is not "silver" it is platinum.... She was commenting on my wedding band.....people are just envious.

Haha the closest thing the restrictive Yahoo avatar thing has to Portia is a white kitty. Which since I'm allergic is so not happening!!

Haha! I love the comment about the mail-order bride. I guess I have a mail-order boyfriend too and a mail-order dog since I found Jelly in an ad from an online newspaper classifieds. My friend who made the "mail-order" comment has been married twice and is now single. I don''t know if she purposely meant it to be rude, but it didn''t really bug me until the day after. Unfortunately she has a way of making underhanded comments to people and doesn''t realize how insulting she is.

There is a book about people just like your "friend". It''s called THE UNDERMINER: THE BEST FRIEND WHO CASUALLY DESTROYS YOUR LIFE.

I''m kind of sick of the whole online/internet ignorance.

Yesterday..."I heard you met your boyfriend online. Weren''t you scared???!!!!"

Yes, I was scared to death of meeting another joker in a bar...at the grocery store....on fix up.....at church.

My boyfriends dad gave a real hard time when he told him that he decided to buy the ring online. He won''t speak to him about it anymore and his dad doesn''t even know that ring has been selected and bought and paid for.

Some people you just don''t talk to about your business. If they don''t know about it...then to them it''s not good or ligit.

Don''t worry about her. you''re in good company with here with those of us with mail order rings!!

LOL! Just keepin'' it real! So called "friends" like this should be allowed to just fade away in our lives like the old driftwood that they are. I hate people like this and in my "old age" have learned to just cut ''em loose.

It kind of makes me wonder how ignorant these people are in real life, too about other issues....

Jelly, I think your friend was just jealous!

Throw in the words "custom-made" and maybe it will help? My nail tech oohed and ahhed over my new ring...and then asked if it was real! She''s funny and very bold, so I was amused instead of insulted!

My friends are so uninterested in jewelry (that''s why I love you guys!)! One has some teeny 80''s Zales stuff, and another has a diamond she won''t wear because she insisted on a 1ct when they didn''t have the $$ and you can see all sorts of black flecks in it. They have as much interest in diamonds as my husband does...
