I dropped into Donoho''s on Friday and Beaudry was having a trunk show. I tried on a 9+ carat, emerald cut, utterly huge diamond ring. Alas, I did not have my loupe, cause I am tacky enough to have pulled it out.

The salesman expected me to swoon, but for some reason it looked fake, and I didn''t like it. I didn''t even think to ask how much. The rest of his stuff was gorgeous, and as for Beaudry, he''s VERY easy on the eyes

Suzanne,

I went on Saturday. I have been looking at his "pretty''s" for a few years. We went to look for an upgrade. We were in there 3 hours and tried on everything. Yes, I agree, he is easy on the eyes, did you meet his wife, Laura?!? We were about to leave after the first hour, but our sales person wanted me to see Laura''s ring, because it was so much of what I wanted. Her''s was a 3.6(ish)ct. F Si2 modern cushion with a pink diamond frame around the cushion, then half moons or traps on both sides, then round pave on the shank. Very pretty, but I was shocked that he would use a Si2. He even selected the stone over higher clarity ones because of the fire in the stone. It looked great and was totally eye clean.

As much as I love his stuff, I just can''t bring myself to spend the kind of money his jewelry demands. The ring I was looking at, was listed on the tag for 125,000. They brought the price down to 111,000. This for a 3.3 cushion, I think the specs were F VS2, picture frame around the center stone with very small half moons that were framed w/diamonds also. I kept thinking I could get so much more for my money elsewhere. Michael and I talked for quite a while about his pieces and how he goes about selecting all the stones. He was very nice and will (of course) do whatever it takes to build my dream ring.
But, oh, couldn''t I have so much more for that amount of $. ?!?
One thing I loved about our visit, was that I saw that the cushion stone I had in my head does exist, an elongated modern cushion. So now I know they are out there. Michael said they are hard to find.

I have never bought anything from Donoho''s, but they have such a beautiful store and a gorgeous selection of yummy things. I also tried on the owner''s ring. Drop dead emerald cut, over 5 cts. I will be getting my dream ring as soon as find a stone, but not sure if Donoho''s will be involved.

Ann, that place is pure eye candy! The salesman I worked with is very nice(GIA certified, no less) and we had a very nice conversation. He put the rings on me knowing I was just an admirer, not a buyer. Very nice of him, and because of this, if he and only he had what I wanted, I might go and buy from him. I did meet the owner, but not his wife. This might link to Leonid''s post about making buying a piece of jewelry a luxurious experience. Cappichino and trays of goodies to eat. Excellent service. Beautiful store. All of this makes it very tempting to buy something from "Donoho''s" just because it''s "Donoho''s".

The only Beaudry piece that caught my eye was the platinum cushion surrounded by pink diamonds in rose gold. YUM.

An elongated cushion? Did he have one there? I hope you can find one, because Beaudry''s prices were off the scale. I am also doing my upgrade. I have the stone and am agonizing over the setting. I''m having another jeweler make an inexpensive simple gold one, to hold me off until I can make up my mind.

Oh, and aren''t you just loving this rain?

Suzanne,

He did have 3 elongated cushions. But by just glancing at them in the cases, one would never see the cut because each setting had the "picture frame" of pave/bead set diamonds around the center stone. We almost bought one of his rings 3 years ago- wow, I wish we had. Prices have gone up so much on his stuff. I have been looking at his work, Jack Kelege, Gregg Ruth and Leon Mege. To my untrained eyes, all their work looks the same quality, but I might be mistaken.

Ah, the rain. Our pool and yard are now one! We are in KW. 11:10pm and still raining and thundering.
