Has anyone had lymphatic drainage massage? Did it work?

My first husband had it after having lymph nodes removed under his arm for cancer. He had it because his arm swelled up. I remember him saying that it was really painful to have the massage...but it did definitely reduce the swelling.

I''ve heard it works for people with lymph problems, esp. cancer, such as your husband. Was more wondering if it worked on healthy people? They offer it for 20 dollars or so at a spa around here and I was wondering it it was worth the money.

HI:

Interesting--a treatment for primary lymphedema I suppose--but who in a spa would diagnose this? Upper or lower extremedies? What benefits are you hoping to receive? At any rate, there is a certification process for performing these treatments (often done by a physiotherapist), and I would want my therapist to have both the education and experience. But sorry, I do not know anyone who has received this treatment that did not have secondary lymphedema (from cancer surgery and treatment).

cheers--Sharon

Nah, they just offer it as a way to make healthy people healthier by giving the lymph glands some extra help, I suppose. It''s not for lymphedema in this context.

I haven''t had one done, but I have performed two. I am a licensed MT so I have been trained. It was recommended by their doctors since they had blockage problems in the nodes around the neck. It''s uncomfotable, but it helped them.
