DH and I will be going to Oahu soon! It will be a short trip but we would love to do the famous Luau show as this is our 1st trip to Hawaii. I know many PSers have gone to Hawaii, would you please give us recommendation on the show(s) that you loved and the vendor''s name(s)??

There are so many vendors and I don''t know how to pick one on my own!

THANK YOU!!!

Thanks socool!
The only thing is that we don''t want to spend the whole day at the PCC... Also I heard that their Luau does not serve alcohol?

I went to the Paradise Cove luau and thought is was amazing! It is on a beautiful little cove that is great to walk around in and take in the scenery or arts and crafts. The dancers were top notch. And, I would highly recommend getting the served dinner vs. the buffet.

Have fun whichever you choose!!!

Friends don''t let friends... go to luau while in Hawaii.

You are correct in that the PCC dosnt serve alcohol because its owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, who dont drink any type of alcoholic beverages. But the entertainment and cultural experiance is really worth the time!

I would recommend that you study up on pearls, jade and the island''s heirloom jewelry...you will see alot of this jewelry while there and the quality pieces are expensive!
The bishop museum was a good experiance for a few hours in the afternoon.

We also did Paradise Cove, because as I remember no alcohol at Polynesian Cultural Center. Alcohol did not matter to me because I can do do without. However, stay away from the frozen mai tais, they''re soooo good, but this was the one drink that really hit me hard and I got drunk on just one. I guess, no eating for the prior 6 hours didn''t help much either.

Also, check out the International Marketplace in Waikiki.... lots of jewelry booths.

pendandI have only shopped on Oahu for a week so im not the best person to ask.Iwould suggest that you might start a jewelry thread asking those on the forum who live there.I shopped everywhere from the International market place(I found mostly mass production quality there)to Tiffanys at the Alamoana shopping mall(every quailty and price at this mall from a few dollars to thousands)I found several heirloom jewelry companies on line with their catologs and addresses(not a good time to buy with gold at a record high)Keep in mind that few items are made on the island, but like most tourist areas shipped in.Go on line to learn about pearl grading(most of the pearls will be fresh water coming from China and the Phillipines. The alomoana mall has a couple huge stores that carry only pearls and jade.Be careful about jade as most is dyed and the good non-dyed can be expensive.I looked several places for jade and was boggled at the prices(anywhere from $10 from lowest to $4,000 for a lavender jade bangle was the most perfect color ive seen!)I was luck enough to find a little second hand store on the beach(not even a phone or business card!)that had a few jades...I found an antique carved white jade pendant(edwardian in age)that the man gave me for about $20.00(I appraised it out for about for about $195,but brought it to a friend who specializes in jade and she assured me that the value was closer to $275-295!)The jewelry is there ,but it takes study and foot work to find it!Make sure you look for hairline stress breaks and cracks in jade, this will bring the price down alot and can be a sign of lesser quality. If the piece has both fractures and dyed the dye will creat a dark line in the break that looks like ink that is the color of the piece.Good luck and happy hunting!JM

Hahahaha!!! Just had to comment on this one, while I loved loved loved the dancers at Paradise Cove, I was a little annoyed with their instruction of Hawaiian words to the tourist audience.

"This is how we say ''hello'' in Hawaiian...''aaaaaa-llllloooooo-haaaaaa''...can you say it with me? ''aaaaaaaa-lllllooooooo-haaaaaa''" Good tourist, good.
