I took my ring in to be cleaned yesterday and was told that one of the prongs needs to be tightened which means the stone is a bit loose at the moment. They said I'd need to take it in on a weekday to be fixed as their workshop isn't open on weekends.

However, I bought the ring from London which means making another trip to London to get it fixed; I'm very busy at work at the moment and can't take a day off just to go to London. So I thought of just going to a mall jeweler where I live and asking them to fix it. Does anybody know how much they might ask for tightening the prongs?

Mall jewelers in my area charge around $30 while the local shops charge around $10

When one of the diamonds from my pave ring fell out, my jeweler (not at a maul store) charged $20 to put it back in. Not sure if that is comparable to your situation.

Wow, it didn't even occur to me to ask the original jewellery store if they were going to charge for it. I'd just assumed that since I got it from them, they'd do it for free. Come to think of it, that was pretty naive of me...

Oh, I didn't mean to alarm you with my information. Just to clarify, I didn't get the ring fixed at the same place where DH bought it. DH bought my ering online and we took it to a local, reputable jeweler when one of the small stones on the shank came out. I would hope the jeweler you bought the ring from would do you the courtesy of fixing it for free. I would expect a vendor who has no relationship to the ring to charge a nominal fee.

In the end it wasn't too bad. I was able to get it done at a local jeweler for £20!
