Thank you all for your input, your many terrific suggestions & ideas. I called the vet just now, had a good discussion of the digestive issues, oral issues, food etc.
They did check his oral cavity, everything good in that department, knock on wood. As far as his digestive system, she felt his gall bladder, pancreas, kidneys, liver (except for liver values), spleen etc, all ok, all tests combined point to good health in that regard.
She really thinks the liver values are the fundamental root. I relayed my concern re his weight & food intake. She suggested I bring him in for a weight check, which am doing this afternoon. His weight she said has been pretty stable, right around 16.5 lbs give or take. If he's lost a pound, then we should do a blood draw to check liver values. We're scheduled to recheck liver values end of Feb. I felt she may have thought I was over-reacting to his food intake, & hence the request to get a current weight.
I discussed the food options, she strongly asked that I not introduce human food yet. She said human diet opens up a can of worms in the context of his issues. Today, I'm also not entirely sure 'if' he is transitioning just yet. Last week we thought for sure....the last day or 2, he seems so much better. Its so fluid! So that's where we are at the moment. I'll keep everyone posted on progress. Thank you so much for all your thoughts & wishes. Snowing today & 12 degrees, its winter in the upper midwest! And he just finished his breakfast, hooray!
