Looking for advice!!!

Hi All!!

I'm sort of struggling to make a decision. Long story short: I have a Cartier Pasha C watch that was gifted to me a few years ago (see pic). Its really nice and I love it, but I NEVER wear it. I guess because of my lifestyle (I'm a nurse) and sometimes it just feels really large and chunky on my wrist. Bottom line: it doesnt get worn.

Anyway, because it sits in a box 99.8% of the time, I have been thinking of selling/consigning it. I checked into a few places (Pearlmans, etc), and it seems that I can only fetch a bit less than half of what was originally paid for it. I know the watch brand new retails for about $4400.00, and so I will be able to get about $1700 for it if I were to sell it outright. I dont want to use EBay or anything similar, so I would rather just sell it to a reputable place. The watch is in like new condidtion with all the original boxes/papers/certs, etc.

So, what do you guys think? My big thing now is that I would LOVE to upgrade my studs, so if I were to sell the watch that $$ would go towards that project, and I wear my studs EVERYDAY. I know I just get so much use out of my studs, so it seems like a no-brainer. But then I think about it and wonder if I will regret selling the watch someday, especially considering the price I will get for it...

So what does everyone think?

I say sell. I just dont think its worth keeping if you arent going to be wearing it especially when the money can go to fund
something you will wear everyday. Whenever I've sold something (only a few items), I always have an initial "did I do the
right thing" kind of feeling then after about a month I dont miss the item at all. Actually, I've usually already spent the
money on something new and I already enjoying/appreciating my new item.

What Tyty said. You'll look at your upgraded pieces & be happy you did it. I've done the same & not missed the item at all after the first tiny twinge. In fact, wondered why I didn't do it sooner.

Ironically I just did the opposite! I traded in an old (pre-PS) pair of 1.5 ctw. diamonds toward a new Ebel watch! I got about 2/3 of the amount I had paid for the diamonds which was fine with me. The jewelry store is really nice, but a watch was the only thing I could really trade for, because I won't buy diamonds anywhere but from these vendors!!!

I think if you will never wear it, I would sell it. How about consigning it or selling on one of the online places? It is a shame, though, because a Cartier watch is a really nice piece to have. If I hadn't just bought a nice watch, I would love a deal like that!

I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to say that's a GORGEOUS watch!

Send pics and info to the major auction houses; Christies, Sotheby's, Skinner.

They will give you an estimate, and they regularly sell watches with big names like Cartier.

They are actually a very friendly bunch, not snobby like you would think, and you can consign as little as one item with them. It may take a while, since it has to be in a watch or jewelry sale, but it's a good way to get top dollar.

Just go to their websites, fill out the form saying you have a Cartier watch to consign, and they will respond to you within a short time.

Hi Dani,
Have you looked at Yoogi's Closet or Ann's Fabulous Finds. They are online consignment sites that carry Cartier once in a while. I think you may be able to get a larger portion of what the watch is worth.

Yes, you are getting less than was paid for it. BUT right now sitting in your closet it is actually worth nothing, in the sense that you are not using it at all and so it has little value! By selling it, even at a loss, you are giving it value it did not have, and putting that money into something you will love and use everyday, which is WAY valuable! So I vote sell.

I think when we think about things like expensive watches and rings and such, we have to consider value differently than we do for objects that maintain their value. It is not really about what was spent on it, but how much pleasure and enjoyment you get from it. If you can take something with little value at the moment and make it into something with lots of value -- as would happen when selling a watch that is not worn and trading for studs you will wear *every day* -- then to me, that is not a loss but a gain.

DF likes watches so I'd try the site he posted. But generally, I'm on the team that says... get it out of storage and make it useful.

It is a hard pill to swallow, the price difference, but I don't think you will really think about it much once you have the earrings. You'll just be thrilled with your upgrade.
