Leaving your SO "alone" to do a project

Oh man, I had to laugh at that pic  I don't understand how anyone would think a TV should be that high!! My husband gets mad when I want to supervise every project, asking "what, you don't trust me?". And I flat out tell him "NO". Men just have an ass-backwards way of doing things sometimes.

BTW, your stenciled wall is gorgeous!

i read the replies and i am still laughing! that's too funny. men!

gorgeous stenciling!

I think you're being unreasonable. He clearly wanted all the people at the back to be able to see.

I laughed so hard at your story April! My DH probably would have done the same thing, right down to the "I knew you would say that."

You do have a lovely sports bar, though!!!

:o that wall is a stencil?! It looks amazing!

April, if I start a new thread would you be happy to post some more pictures of it? I would love to see it close up.

I would be happy to. I am very happy with how it turned out.

Oh my gosh, I know this isn't funny to you April, but I am laughing so hard over here.

I hate to admit it, but in our house I'm the one who does things like this, and my husband is the long-suffering spouse who has to clean up my messes.

Your wall really is gorgeous! I can't believe it's a stencil. WOW!

I love this!

I bet a bunch of his friends come over and they all STAND around with drinks in their hands and watch it. :D

Be sure to bring them hot wings at regular intervals . . .

Oh my. I hate visible televisions in homes, period, but this kind of takes the cake! I hope he moves it down for you.

My husband and I have had a couple instances of miscommunication with projects, so now he knows to consult with me first and we sort of map everything out whether it is a large or small issue. Except for a pair of window panels he hung for me two months ago that are too high off the floor. I think he thought he was "safe" doing that himself.

i will admit that i would not be able to tolerate that tv there for more than about 24-hours......i'd call someone to take it down and re-hang it if it weren't taken care of very quickly..........

lesson learned: be specific where you want him to hang things before you leave the house?

this is something he will never live down.........

Leaving your SO "alone" to do a project

First off, wow! I love your living room wall! And secondly, men cannot live without us women to make sure they do things right haha
It's funny the way men think and the way women think.

I think as we get older we are more rational and realistic and men, well, they become babies all over again! :)

My husband is adept at navigating around an instrument tray in surgery. He is a health hazard around household tools. He is forbidden from touching them. He is forbidden from attempting any kind of home repair beyond changing batteries in the TV remote. When he asks where the "instrument is that you use for nails" he is given a time-out.

That is hilarious! But yeah, I think we all should give a bit more direction before we leasve our partners with a project lol

Yes, I think we need plenty more pictures of that stencil and possibly a link to where you purchased it! FI owns a house built in 1910 (ish) and we're remodeling the whole thing (read: he is fixing plaster, tearing things down and repairing everything, I am watching and will then decorate lol). I would LOVE that on one of our walls! LOVE that light brown chair too! I registered for one like similar to that for our upcoming wedding!

Sorry but I just LMFAO.

I really think you should do your bit and spring for those beer signs.

I am covered up with work at the moment, but will try to start a thread for the walll tomorrow. I'll get some good pics and find a link to the shop where I bought my stencil. It's pretty nifty how they work! You need patience more than skill.

I suggest you put ten phonebooks under each leg of the couch, and put a step stool nearby for climbing up to it. Make it clear that it is temporary just until the tv gets lowered.

Perfect!!

LOL! I'm sorry about your tv. The tone of your post made me giggle.

First,I would like to join in with everyone else in saying that I absolutely love the wall stenciling.

Second, I am so sorry your hubby did that!

Third, this has actually made me thankful that my hubby is too busy with work and lazy in his free time to mount our tv!

I have to admit I had a little chuckle at what your husband did. You have obviously gone to lengths to have a beautiful space so I can imagine what your reaction was to this little fiasco. Hopefully, he will change it for you soon!

OMG.

:D :D :D :D :D :D

This is too funny, especially the replies.

I can just imagine the look on your face when you saw this!!

I started the thread. Hopefully you will see if and get a chance to add some more photos of your wall. :wavey:

 My husband would totally do this!

Stacy, the stencil is easy if you have patience. You should do it!

And I got the chair from Overstock.com a few years back. I love their chairs.

Oh jeez, April! Hahaha! My DH used to hang TVs for a living (among other duties) so he would die if he saw this! I think every TV he sees is too high, according to him!

I hope your DH will fix it soon! And also that the patches won't affect your beautiful stenciling!

Agreed!
I'm so sorry April20, this brings back memories of the "man-cave" that my husband thought he was creating when he hung surround sound equipment in our living room last year. instead of putting speakers discreetly in corners, he had one ugly black speaker sticking out of the MIDDLE of an accent wall. I was livid, and like you I was fuming for him to remove it or move it for DAYS!

He finally moved it, and we had to get a nice big wall hanging to cover the 3" square HOLE in the middle of the wall where all his speaker wires went behind the walls.....

Oh lord, that man is pissed at me right now. I asked him to move the TV. He said he never wanted to move it. I asked him if he please would, it's just too high. He says (indignantly), "it is NOT too high!". In his heart of hearts, that man sees nothing wrong with it! But it is getting moved.

Oh boy. It sounds like he really, really likes the set that high. I just called my DH over and showed him the picture. His first reaction was it seemed a little high, and then he said that is how they are in sports bars. So, he does understand the difference between a sports bar and a living room.

Are you sure this is worth fighting over? I have a second set in another room next to my computer that I watch, so I guess I wouldn't think this was worth a major battle. Perhaps another TV might be a solution, because to watch that TV you would have to be standing. Or sitting on a high stool, but I'm guessing that you don't want to put high chairs into your living room.

As for leaving him alone to do a project, yeah, only do that when you don't care about the results.

You could always show him this thread so he sees the TV from a different perspective. Who knows, he might see some humor in it and laugh at some of the sports bar comparisons.

I thought about that and it would piss him off more. Oh well. It's 12" lower now. I had him put the top of the TV to just cover the holes from where it was mounted. It looks SO MUCH better it was totally

worth him getting mad. He still says he liked it better before but I think he doesn't want to admit it was too high!

I will post a new pic.

New location! SO much better. It can't go lower because there are holes he drilled for the toggle bolts AND a j-box he installed to fish cords up. Yeah, wasn't asking him to move that!

That looks much better. However I know that if this happened in our house, dh would be telling me that a brand new 70" Tv would solve the problem about the holes and the height!

Oh, and to add to why I wanted it moved so badly- we live in a condo. This wall is the FIRST thing you see when you walk in. I might not have been so adament about it had it not been so visible!
