Leaving your SO "alone" to do a project

You know what I mean. You leave them alone to finish something, install something, whatever and then you get home. And you wonder what you were ever thinking leaving it up to them.

Case in point.

We moved about five weeks ago. We had nearly everything settled but the TV wasn't mounted in the living room. We had to buy a new mount and then when it came, we were so crazy busy it sat for two weeks. Last Sunday, DH said he was going to mount it. He makes a list and takes off for Home Depot to get some hardware. I go to the grocery store. I don't even think to discuss WHERE it should be mounted before I leave. I mean, we hung the one in our bedroom a few weeks ago and I thought he knew about how high I would want it. Stupid, stupid, stupid. LESSON ALERT: Don't EVER think you and your SO are magically on the same page unless you discuss it and KNOW you are on the same page.

I walked into the house after grocery shopping and I am now living in a frigging sports bar. That TV is mounted SO high, you literally can't watch it from the soft without slouching all the way down AND laying your head back. I do not know what the man was thinking. I asked him if he thought it was a "'bit" high. His response? "I knew you would say that!". UMMMM.... well, then why did you mount it so frigging high?!? I admit, I used a little passive agressiveness "no, it's fine. I'll just deal with it". This translates into "move that dumb thing NOW". He was so irritated that I hated it. His reasoning was that if he mounted it lower you "couldn't see my stenciled wall". Um, it's to the right and left too. He finally said he would move it "another day". I'm holding him to this.

I've attached a picture so you can see my Sports Bar. I need some neon beer signs and it will be complete. I can't walk thru that room without getting irritated.

BAHAHHA! Oh I'm so sorry. Yeah... that's NOT where I would put it...

Plenty of room for some REALLY tall vases on the cabinet, though!

OMG!!! April 20, I'm so sorry that you had to face that after assuming it would be done differently!!!   Yikes, that is one high TV mount and I see a neck strain injury in your future if that is not adjusted.

And the funny thing is, your DH probably thinks its just perfect where it is!

Is the tv visible from the kitchen? If so, you can stand around with a drink on the counter while you watch tv. Keep us posted about game schedules and scores! :cheeky:

Beer fridge needed STAT - are we allowed to throw peanuts on the floor at your place? (I'm sorry - I couldn't help it.... :loopy: )

Oh.....that's such a guy thing! Why do they all want to hang everything two inches from the ceiling?

::SNORT:: :bigsmile:

Haha! It's so funny because the tv cabinet is right there and it should OBVIOUSLY be just a couple inches above it. I love MissStepcut's suggestion of really tall vases. Lolol I cannot stop laughing, this is so something my DF would do. He tried to put the shelves in my closet in a way that meant that it would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to reach half of them. Fortunately I was supervising that and was able to correct the proceedings before they got crazy. He also thought when I said I was going to paint the kitchen that I meant I was going to paint the cabinets, and completely panicked and went "Nooo! I like it white!" and I was like, "The kitchen isn't white, it's a really horrid taupe!" and he was all, "Wait, you mean the WALLS?" Why, yes, when I say I will paint a room, I do usually mean the walls.

p.s. Your stenciled wall is AMAZING. The rest of that room looks very well-decorated too. All the pictures of homes I've seen on PS have been so beautiful - not only does everyone have great taste in jewelry, they apparently have great taste in everything else too.

You should mount another TV under it an then you really will have a sports bar! :cheeky:

"Like" lol! You two can watch different TV shows at the same time from the same couch lol!

Hahaha!!! I literally laughed out loud reading your story, then seeing the picture! MEN! haha!

I bet he was so proud of himself, too! LOL

And, that is TOTALLY something my SO would say: "I knew you would say that." LOL. Oh geesh.

I suggest you put ten phonebooks under each leg of the couch, and put a step stool nearby for climbing up to it. Make it clear that it is temporary just until the tv gets lowered.

Sorry, that is hilarious and so something my dh would do, i'll have to show him this and I guarentee you he will look at it and say "Whats wrong with that"?

Oh lord! I don't even want to put that idea in his head.

But you've just hit part of his reasoning right on the head! He said he mounted it that high to leave me room to store stuff on top! I never do that! I had clutter in the living room (my office, however, is a completely different story!).

MEN! Gotta love them!

Why thank you! I got the stencil on Etsy. It was 5.5 hours of me cussing, but totally worth it in the end. I wanted an artsy wall his big TV could go on, but sure as heck wasn't hanging art adjacent to it!

Looks like it's your turn to put the tv up :wink2:

He practically hung it from the ceiling. :o

Haha, I can imagine. Just painting a plain wall is frustrating enough for me and DF!

Omg April, that is SO funny!!!   What IS it with guys and tvs??? We were in a sports bar over the weekend and there were 6 tvs lined up in a row over the bar and my husband said something like "Now THIS is what we need in the family room!". And I don't think he was kidding! :errrr:

I can't wait to show this to dh! I know he's going to say "so what's the problem???"

I love it. I was going to call it "wallpaper" but it's really nice! You better stay home this time and watch where he puts holes. :appl:

Oh wow.... :o
I guess being short has it's benefits after all, because I know I won't ever end up with a tv hanging two inches from the ceiling....

Maybe he gets credit for finishing the project?

This is even better than when I came home to a completely rearranged living room and family room after a week away for work. DH was so proud that he moved sofas and chairs up and down the stairs by himself, I really couldn't say anything. :wink2:

Maybe your DH thought that you would enjoy laying down and looking up at the tv in full relaxation mode?

The wall is GORGEOUS. The TV is hilarious.

First, I love the stenciled wall. Second, that picture is hilarious.

Ask him for a neon beer sign for Christmas! Yikes. (Beautiful job of stenciling though.)

I love the wall! The tv..well, I admit there was an outburst of laughter here.

haha thanks for the laugh.

my SO does stuff like that all the time.

:o that wall is a stencil?! It looks amazing!

April, if I start a new thread would you be happy to post some more pictures of it? I would love to see it close up.
