So in May DH and I will be going to Las Vegas for 3 nights and staying at TheHotel (we've stayed there before and just enjoy it). We're there Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, flying out to NJ on Friday for a wedding on Saturday.

I've rented a cabanna type thing for one of the days so we can go to the 'beach' at the hotel and just lounge. And we have reservations at Andre's (french food), which we really like.

We've been to Vegas before so while I will be stopping into Fred Leighton for a WHILE  and going to Canturi, we aren't going to be shopping. Or gambling, as neither of us gambles.

We want more of a relaxation vacation. Some great food, nice wine, a good spa, etc. Maybe some laughs (didn't see ANY shows that even raised a pulse beat).

Do you guys have recommendations of a spa, or other activities that are more geared toward indulgence and relaxation in Vegas? I'd appreciate it!

Hi Gypsy,

If you have not booked your hotel yet. You would be well served to stay at the Four Seasons. (I don't know how it compares price wise). It allows you access to the beach etc. of Mandalay Bay and all the other services, yet you get the serene experience that you seem to be after. I cannot say enough about the Four Seasons and their private pool. They set up your chair with plush towels and a terry cloth chair cover for you and bring you ice water. I was there recently and it was the most relaxing experience of my life. Besides that I can not really think of anything in Vegas that I would call relaxing....

:) Alice

I imagine every resort on the strip has a spa. The nice thing about staying at TH is that you're right there with the 4S and MB so you can go really high end of "slum it" should you wish.

Hi Alice, thanks for the recommendation! I have looked at staying at the four seasons a couple of times, but ultimately because we've stayed with them before TheHotel always sends us promotions that are hard to say no to. I would love to hit the Four Seasons in Vegas for a Sunday brunch, but we never seem to make it there for a weekend.

I know, one doesn't think of "Las Vegas" and "Relax" in the same sentence usually but we have to go back east for a wedding and we wanted to take a few days for ourselves... and Vegas (shockingly) ended up being the most cost effective in terms of airfare and hotels. We looked at other options but... for what you get in terms of amenities and prices Las Vegas just made sense.

Hi HH, yeah definitely 'slumming it' I'm trying to weigh whether or not I think the spa prices are worth it. DH loves massages, but I'm very weird about spas. Unless everything is just right I get as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Which defeats the purpose of going in the first place. I'm thinking of just getting some lovely fizzy bath supplies and some kick-arse candles for myself for the huge spa tub in the hotel room and booking a massage for DH so I get to be alone with the tub :naughty: . Last time we went to Vegas I spent the two days we were there as a prune. DH had to bribe me out of the tub. I love a nice bath.

Has anyone gotten a couples massage? I'm not sure I understand the point of the whole experience. We share plenty. We're co-dependant even... do we really need to be in a room with each other while getting rubbed down by strangers? Meh...

ETA: Okay so I bought 5 bath bombs. http://www.lushusa.com/shop/products/bath/bath-bombs/ still undecided on the couple's massage, but the bath bombs are non-negotiable!

Need a cute sundress now.

We often go out to Red Rock Canyon, but you would need a car.
I know what you mean about the shows. I've seen enough Cirque variations, Blue Men Groups, Celene Dions, etc. etc. etc. to last a lifetime. We used to enjoy Danny Gans more than anything out there--

HI:

Enjoy your stay. We just returned from almost a week in the tower suites at the Wynn. Our room was 2000 sq ft and beyong stunning--I also enjoyed the pool that was just for tower suite guests. Our room had a private massage table in it but the spa was so beautiufl that it was hard not to go there.....and I didn't want to hang out in the room all day anyway. No couple massage for us--that was just for me!

We had wonderful meals in the different restaurants--glad we went out and about and did not stay exclusively inside the hotel. I enjoyed Celine Dion and did not take other shows in since that doesn't suit our tastes.

cheers--Sharon

You already ordered the bath bombs? There is a LUSH at Mandalay Place--which is about 200 feet from the lobby of TheHotel. It's one of my fave places to visit and stock up at in Vegas. I didn't spend a couple hundred there two weeks ago....I swear!

I say it sounds like a pretty great trip already.

How do you feel about manis and pedis? While the husband gets a massage, you can get some mani/pedi action!

There's not a lot of interaction in a couples massage, but the advantages are (1) you get done at the same time, and (2) they're typically cheaper than getting 2 separate massages. So if both of you want a massage, it's worth doing a couples massage.

Hi Pink, Never been there. Will have to look into it. Thanks for the tip! Yeah, the shows just aren't my thing, especially the ones there now. I mean if there was a big comedian headliner, maybe. Laughter is always appreciated.

Hi Sharon, how deep was the pool? I like deeper pools and all the private pools seem to be 3-4 feet. I'm glad you guys had a nice trip. Yeah, we're looking forward to going to different restaurants too. What was your favorite?

Hi Freke, I didn't know there was a Lush there? I've never really looked at any of the shops at Mandalay. Last time I got my bath supplies somewhere at the Paris hotel. I like pedicures... that might be an option, good suggestion.

Jstar, doesn't sound like it's something we'd enjoy then. Thank you!

Gyspy, have you guys seen any of the Cirque Du Soleil shows? My hubby was there in Jan. and saw the Beatles Love show and said it was just amazing and wants to go see it again. This is huge coming from him b/c he's not a "show" type guy.

Gypsy, I am a huge spa girl and I have gone to the Spa at Mandalay Bay and both myself and my hubby really did like it. We have also eaten at Michael Mina's at the Bellagio many times and I love it! I get the Lobster Pot Pie and they literally come to your table and put it together for you!

You like sushi? Nobu's was awesome...if you can really afford to splurge, go omakase and pay enough to get you stuff not listed on the menu (which is like $150 and above). Never had an experience with sushi quite like it. Uni butter over kobe beef medalions; Nigerian prawns (which were literally 8" long - I thought it was a slipper lobster or something like it at first); spiny lobster sashimi...it changes depending on what the chef has...we walked away stuffed.

No advice but just wanted to say hope you pack something warm and waterproof for the wedding. The weather up here right now sucks, and Saturday we're supposed to be chilly, damp and raining.

HI:

Thanks for asking: Mix Lounge, Aureole and N9NE were all "tied" for #1 in our opinion; but thoroughly enjoyed Nove Italiano and The Country Club as well. I never even thought about the depth of the pools, but were >than 3 feet. P.S. I also like the "car" service options--made for a more relaxing vacation.

Enjoy your trip and Lush products!

cheers--Sharon
