Well, he kind of did, for a while.

He has this monogrammed ring with a .40-ish ct diamond, given to him as a high school graduation present from his auntie. So when we started dating, I used to make fun of him that he's the diamond diva in the family. In truth, he's worn it 2-3 times all in all, as he thinks it's too gaudy for him and even offered to have the diamond reset into something I'd like to wear. I refused, of course-it's his graduation gift and it should stay intact, no matter how gaudy it is (well, it is gaudy )

Then a few years later, when we weren't penniless university students anymore, he was able to buy my very first diamond ring and that was the start of my obsession (and the end of his reign as a diamond diva )
