This requires a bit of explaination so bear with me. We moved into a condo with an odd layout a few months ago. The bottom/ground floor is the front door with just the laundry room on that level, then a flight of stairs, then a large landing with the bathroom, another flight of stairs and the rest of the condo. When we moved in, we wanted to put the litterbox in the laundry room, but it was packed to the gills with crap so we put it up the one flight of stairs on the bathroom level temporarily.
We finally have it organized enough to move the cat box down to the permanent home for it, the laundry room. Which we did three days ago. You guessed it, our Lovable But Stoopid cat can''t find it. We''ve carried her down and set her in it repeatedly, including when one of the other cats was using the box so she could see that yes, that''s the litterbox and you poop in it. Well, of course, she won''t. Instead she keeps using the corner by the bathroom where the box used to be.
She''s always been a a few french fries short of a happy meal- though we love her!- but this is driving me batty. Today when she peed up at the bathroom level, I found her downstairs, in the laundry room, right near the catbox, right afterwards. Gah! Whyyyyy?????
When she was a kitten, she kept peeing in one corner, rather than the catbox, so what I finally did was put another litter box right where she insisted on going, and gradually scooted it towards the one I wanted her to use, and then finally got rid of the extra one. That worked. And it seems like I might have to do that now, but I''m afraid it''ll be a LOT harder in this house, because the distance between her pee-corner and the catbox is just stairs. Small ones. And she''s FAT. A teensy litterbox that would fit on a stair would probably not fit her big butt now.
Any other ideas? She''s 15, and quite fat, and doesn''t like change much.
It''s also driving her brother nuts. He got furious at her for corner-peeing tonight and chased her down the hall growling and nipping at her. (He did that when she was little and not box trained.)
