Hi Psers,

I'm in my 30s. I would call myself a late adopter perhaps because I don't like change or I like to keep things simplified. I use Facebook and Pinterest but don't have Twitter and Instagram. I heard the other day that "facebook is becoming obsolete," and I was wondering what kids/cool people/hipsters are using now a days? I can't keep up! Help educate me!

Thanks in advance!

Snapchat was becoming the thing for awhile, but now Instagram has come out with Instastories which is the same thing. Snaps are short vids that are only up for a short period of time and then disappear. (The internet never forgets, though...so keep that in mind!)
I haven't tried Instastories yet. I'm fairly active on IG but don't have as much time to devote to social media as I used to. I think Facebook is still great for advertising or keeping up with old friends, but yeah, it's not what it once was. I don't post nearly as often as in years past, and frankly am just kind of over it. Remember MySpace? It's kind of becoming a relic like that, imo.

I don't have twitter or instagram. Without chastising me, can someone tell me... is there a lot of naked people and **** on these apps? I tried googling this, but couldn't find a real answer.

**** and awesome looking naked people can be triggering for me. Yeah, I have issues. Please be gentle.

I have FB and Instagram... I don't use Twitter or Pinterest & briefly played with snapchat before deleting it. I do not see naked ppl/**** on instagram. This doesn't mean it isn't there - I have not looked for it and only view what people I'm following put up. If they were putting up things I don't like I would just stop following them. I've hidden a lot of people's feeds on FB that were negative. They're still friends I just don't like FB drama... I don't need it... I like happy pictures and positivity.

Ahhh My Space... I remember that and Xanga Blogs. Yes, my sister in law in her 20s showed me snap chat. It was entertaining for about 5 minutes but I can't imagine why adding ears/flowers on your face would catch up. I never downloaded it. Thanks for sharing what you know about Instastories. Least I'll know the terminology.

From what I've seen about FB, it does seem to be changing. Perhaps it's just my feed but I'm tired of the political posts and ladies trying to sell me makeup. I miss just the simple pictures that people show to stay in touch with their lives.

Housecat, I don't think so. You chose who you want to follow or see. I haven't found that to be a problem. I would be out if it was. I just follow a small group of people. Now if you follow Kim K you may see more skin.

I'm not tech savvy..

I am a late adapter too. I only got a smart phone a little over a year ago.

+1

I haven't even joined myspace yet.

I'm sure I'm the only PS member who still has no 'smart'phone.

I guess I'm just not smart enough.

I am OK that I am just not interested.

PS has evolved and is more than enough!

It's not clear; do you also not have a 'smart'phone?

IG. Best b!ing around.

I just installed dashcams in my cars. That's kinda techy. Easy to install, easy to use, inexpensive.

I heard about those.
Sounds like a great idea.

Can you recommend what you bought?

I used to be a technology geek...always had to have the latest devices, hacking things for the best features, collecting multiple devices, signing up for the latest on-line service, etc.

Then I realized that I spent more time researching, upgrading, transferring, re-learning than I did enjoying. And spending so much time online that I wasn't doing a lot of things I used to enjoy.

Now I want to use things out of the box, spend less time on-line (surfing on my phone while I do other things doesn't count) and upgrade only when needed. And if it's too time consuming, it sits in a box until someone can set it up for me or I really need it. I am becoming my parents :o

Not tech savvy at all and I am a slow learner when it comes to all things technical.

In 2003 my dh came home and said here's your mobile phone (a flip Motorola I think) despite years of resisting. He just finally bought one for me and bam I had a mobile # and phone. In 2006 I caved and got a computer. An IBM. I had never used the Internet before. PS was one of the first sites I enjoyed on the internet. It was a while new world and despite being resistto change I never looked back. No regrets. And now I have many things Apple and oh I love my Mac toys.

Of course I'm not quite sure what I did before the Internet world opened up for me and I don't think I could live happily without it or my mobile phone. So blessing or curse. Perhaps a bit of both lol. (And FYI Kenny I mean blessing or curse in the most secular way possible. No religious meaning).

I have recently started enjoying Instagram and it does have delicious bling and precious furbabies but honestly I could see tiring of it if one becomes obsessed so am trying to not be connected and tuned in to it all day. That is iI am going to just check it once or twice a day now as it was getting a bit out of hand for me lol. What can I say? It has two of my favorite things. Bling and animals.

Moral of story. Make it work for you and don't work for it. Use it as a tool for enjoyment and a hobby but don't make it your life's work. Unless you want to that is.

I am the tech person in our house besides my son. DH - no way. I have always had to set up the stereo speaker system, program the new thermostat, program a universal remote, etc. I used to be like lilmosun with jailbreaking my phone but that was out of necessity to get internet for the house because we have nothing else available except dial-up and satellite. I like tech and do research all the time but like her/him I spend way too much time doing it in the winter. Now that spring is here I need to get out of the house. Unfortunately I know too much about it and my mother calls me to be her tech person from 800 miles away. I seriously feel for any customer service tech assistant. Do you know how hard it is to explain over the phone to someone who cannot manage much more than a power button on their PC? :wall: Now imagine it is your mother.

Red I feel your pain. My mother drives my poor husband crazy with her IPad and computer. She currently has the pay as you go flip phone and is taking about getting an iPhone. My niece called to ask me to please try to talk her out of getting the iPhone. She knows my mom with call her 100 times a day with questions....and you know old people, if you're busy and can't answer that very second, you will be left a 100 messages within 10 minutes.

I love this commercial.
