I have a bit of a dilemma.... I''m a pretty short, petite person (5''1" ish, size 2-4) that somehow managed to be "blessed" (cursed?) with my grandmother''s genes in the chest area--we''re talking in the DD-E range...

My dress is the Maggie Sottero Coco so I need some kind of corset type undergarment that will keep the girls in their place (and not spilling out of the dress). Unfortunately everything that I''ve looked at tends to push them up, which is definitely NOT what I need.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Here''s a pic of the dress if it helps:

That didn''t work...let''s try again...

I don''t know if the minimizer corsets, but I used to always wear minimizer bras....I actually had surgery a couple of years ago to take my girls down a couple of sizes!

It was the best investment ever!!!!

I think figleaves.com has a a bunch of lingerie and maybe they could help.

Or getting a cups/bra sewn into the dress and then wear one of the middle cinchers if you still want the the solid line under the dress.

If you don't mind me asking lala, what size were you before, and what size are you now?

I had a breast reduction and went from a 32GG to a 34DD/36D. Best thing my insurance has ever done for me.

ETA: misspinky, you could check out bravissimo too. They are England based, but they have my favorite bigger bras-and it's all about the bigger *ladies*, so they know what they're doing and dealing with.

lala--I''ve bought from figleaves before so I''ll definitely go explore the website some more

Freke--thanks for the link! I''m taking a look now and hopefully they''ll have something that will work

Let me know what you find! I''m not quite that big, but I''m 5''6" 103 lbs with 32D''s (I say they r more of a curse).

My dress has a really low cut back but I can''t go w/o a bra. I''m hoping to find something that works underneath it, or maybe they can build one into the dress.

BTW your gown is GORGESS!!!

redrose--do you have a pic of the back of your dress? I would be more than happy to see if I could find something that would work for you while I am searching...

Thanks! It's a corsett but u can't really tell bc it's clipped! It's a very light chiffon material so it may show everything!

BTW my dress is the maggie Rio gown! I love her dresses!

It might not be minimizing enough, but David''s Bridal carries a corset bra that they call a minimizer. I''m not as big as you, but almost, and just as short. When I went to try on dresses, they gave me the push-up bra to try on, and it wasn''t until my consultant overheard me complaining that I wanted smaller boobs that she even thought to mention they carried another one. She said she assumed EVERYONE would want the push-up variety. It might be worth it for you to try it.

I''m glad I''m not the only one with this probelm! I''m a 32DD/DDD and I am sort of dreading looking for dresses because of it. What style of neckline did you find that fit the best? I was thinking something with some type of strap through I love the look of a strapless dress and HATE those little spaghetti straps. I''m usually not a fan of halters either so I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I''ve also been worrying about what to wear under whatever I find so I''ll be looking for tips too!

Redrose--Here is a link to a blog where they give several suggestions for low back dresses. Check it out and see if that helps.

Hey
THreadjacking a little bit

sorry, i thought i replied to this earlier, but my internet at work was being fussy.

anyway, I was a 32 overflowing DD in high school and the beginning of college. I had my reduction when I was 20 and originally went down to a 34B. I''ve gained some weight since then and am now 36C. I'', starting with a trainer in september, so hopefully I can get them back down.

I wasn''t as big as a lot of people who get them, but I ran track (hurdles mostly) in high school and it really ended up hurting my back. Plus I was just so self-conscious. Everyone told me to wait until I was older, but I''m SO HAPPY that I didn''t listen. After I have kids if they are still big, I may get another one. I would have gone to an A if the Dr. would have let me! I hate having big boobs! and you can always pad, but its much harder to take away.

Foxybride....i think the lace gowns with lthe wide lace straps are so pretty, and would provide more substantial looking support than spaghetti straps.

I would stay away from halters....some straightacross strapless dresses may work, but some just create that big shelf boob look. (haha) stay away from high necked, that creates that ski slope look.

A pretty square neck portrait neckline could be very pretty....they tend to show the pretty colorbone area and then cover and flatten out a chest.

also if you do strapless, doing a lace bolero might help

don''t know how trendy you want you dress to be, but assymetrical necklines are sometimes really flattering to a larger chest.

My internet is being slow, so i don''t have examples, but those would be my suggestions, just based on my love of dresses in general, not specifically wedding dresses.

I know exactly how you feel! I LOVE strapless dresses--especially the sweetheart necklines--so I was determined to get one regardless of my chest size. I''ve basically resigned myself to shelling out the money for a custom designed corset. I''ve contacted a few places and actually talked to one shop owner on the phone who was extremely helpful. With a custom designed corset (much like a custom designed dress) you can have it "built" to your specifications, in my case it will minimize and contain the bustline. Luckily for me, I managed to order my dress during a spectacular sale at a bridal shop and got it for 50% off so I have room in my budget for the custom corset. Just something to think about...

Thanks for the suggestions Lala. I hadn''t thought about the assymetrical look. I was thinking something like the Maggie Soterro "Brandy" might work.

Brandy is a beautiful dress--my only comment is to make sure you order the dress size based on your bust measurement since you want that beaded band to fit securely under you bosom

That brings up my other fear: having to order this humongous dress to fit my boobs only to have it not fit properly every where else because of the massive alterations being done to it.

Curse all you A-C cup girls! LOL

I looked up the Brandy dress. Try it on and see.....my only concern would be that the beading will either be hidden under your chest OR that it would cut across your chest and create a boob over and under the beading....does that make sense?

I love the wide set straps though!!!

Yea I hate the under/over boob thing. That''s why I don''t usually buy things that have a bra shape already in it cuz I know my knockers will not fit!

I won''t be trying anything on until my sister visits in October so I will have to try to stop obsessing about it until then.

be sure to let us know what you decide on...and of course PICTURES!!!!

For sure. I''m going to the Running of the Brides in October too so we''ll see how that goes.

I don''t have any great suggestions ... but I wanted to say I feel your pain. I''m 5''9", 34D/DD, so I guess they''re kind of proportionate to my body, but they still get in the way and I wish they were smaller. I ended up getting the JCrew Sophia dress (http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WeddingParties/womens/forthebride/PRDOVR~63050/63050.jsp) because it let me wear a normal bra. The neckline is pretty and it covers enough that I can''t possibly be popping out.

Your dress is gorgeous though
30.gif
and I really hope you find a solution! I''d be interested to know what you find. If you get a custom corset, would you be able to wear it again in the future (maybe with cocktail dresses?) or would it just go with the dress? It would be great to get something that would be versatile after the wedding.

In a mini thread-jack, I wanted to add that I had the same experience at David''s Bridal as Sabine. They gave me this thing that pushed them up and every dress I tried on made me look like a hoochy. Lol. My mom was cracking up the whole way through because I was spilling out. I kept complaining about it, but the woman didn''t even mention that they had something else I could try.
29.gif
She just said that all the brides wanted something that pushed them up (kind of like how Victoria''s Secret tries to sell me push-up bras ... thanks, but no thanks). Oh, and I hated how their corset made me go up 1-2 dress sizes. I want to look thinner! Not add 1/4" of padding!

If I go the custom route (which I''m definitely leaning towards) it would be something that I could wear again under any kind of dress. I''m in the beginning stages of design with a custom corsetiere, and she''s been so helpful explaining what would work best to get the desired result (which is shape the waist and control the boobs). Plus, with the custom jobs they send you a muslin mock up that you can try on with your dress and mark where it needs to be cut along the bustline. So far, I''m really excited about the process.

MissPinky, I'm 5'2", 105, and had (before this pregnancy thing) 32DD's. I got my strapless bra from figleaves, and the trick is NOT to get a corset, that's designed to push up, but something sturdy and foam-lined to keep them in check. I had to try on a dozen before finding one that worked, and that's what I advise. Order EVERYTHING in your size from figleaves and barenecessities and try them all on until you find something that works for you.

redrose, You look lovely in your photo, but I just have to pipe up, even though it's nosey, having actually known someone who died (inadvertantly) of starvation related complications, that 5'6" and 103 lbs is STARVING. Your BMI is 16. That is not just skinny, that is radically underweight and you are putting yourself at serious risk for various malnutrition related illnesses, SERIOUS risk of infertility, etc. Have you had a doctor's check up recently to make sure you're not deficient in nutrients? Even if you aren't (which would surprise me) your body desperately needs fat to cushion itself, to produce estrogen, and to process vitamins and minerals. Please, please please talk to your doctor about whether your extremely low BMI is putting you at risk of serious health conditions or even (as in the case of the woman I knew) imminent death.

IG--You''re my body double! I have a 5 month old and was 105, 32DD pre-preg. I''m almost back to that weight, 7ish lbs left to go, but I''m still breastfeeding so the girls are still out of control

Hopefully when she starts eating more of other foods they''ll go down a little...

I know that it''s underweight for my height...but I eat...lots...and don''t excersize at all. I eat cake...chips and dip...steak...everything! ALL THE TIME! Candy bars...etc. etc. I''ve ALWAYS been this was way. I have fat (believe it or not) and not muscle. I have always been this tiny and my OBGYN didn''t say anything to me about it. Notta word. I''m not anemic or anything. As far as I''m aware I''m fine. Believe it or not, in person I don''t look 103...I probably look 115. I''m not sure how I''m that little (esp. with girls like I have) but that''s what the doc told me a couple months ago. it goes up and down probably 5 lbs every week or so, but I eat 3 meals a day and snack all the time. I am only 20, so I''m sure that will change, and I get my peroid every month (so that means something is still okay, if I was that underweight something should be off there). I''m also a health science major and my teacher is a an OBGYN and I know he would have said something to me if he thought there was something wrong. Thanks for the heads up though! I def. wouldn''t want to die!

But I swear...my doc didn''t say anything to me and I believe I am fine. After we get married though, I''ll have it all checked out because we''re planning on trying for a baby right away. IF anything is wrong, they''ll let me know then!

Hiya Redrose (and sorry for the threadjack to the OP!). Glad to hear that you are eating up a storm! If you are having regular periods, you're probably OK, and you can always do basal body temperature to make sure you're ovulating. Basically, body fat is needed to create estrogen, and estrogen is needed for ovulation and to carry a healthy pregnancy. So that's why athletes and women who are very underweight sometimes start missing periods or having trouble getting pregnant.

As long as you're eating plenty of healthy food, then you're probably OK, but maybe just have a full physical done (where they test your iron and vitamin levels and stuff) just to be sure. And we should all have those every other year or so anyway!

Sorry if I scared ya. I've just been thinking about that woman I knew a lot lately.
