I was engaged in mid-June and now plans are in works for us to get married in December of... 2008!

I''m still in shock and can''t quite believe it''s really going to happen.

I was excited to get engaged, but frankly was a little frightened about taking the next big step. I told my FI that I wanted a long engagement so I can have time to sort out all my issues. But after really thinking about it I realized what was causing all my hesitation and anxiety about getting married - my ugly relationship with my parents, money, anxiety about being in the center of attention, etc. There was nothing about US that was stopping us, we''ve been together for 5 years, been there for each other through thick and thin, he''s been my family when my own was causing me so much pain, yet I was letting all the external influences scare me from marrying my guy.

So, we talked about it, looked at a few options, and decide to elope

Before you know it, we have a reservation at a small waterside resort in Florida Keys the first week of December, plane tickets are purchased, cute little convertible is rented, and wedding rings are in the works. We''re going to completely spoil ourselves especially since we don''t have to worry about anyone else

My only worry now is the dress, as I just found out that 3 months is not enough time to get my dream dress. I was completely oblivious to how long wedding dresses take!

This Demetrios Dress was what I would''ve loved but it looks like even rush ordering won''t get it here on time. I''m now looking at pre-owned dresses, as well as considering wearing something more casual. I really wanted something a bit different though, a little romantic and whimsy, as I can''t pull off neither sophisticated nor real fancy

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Well I may be back completely freaked out once all this sinks in, but for now I''m very excited and wanted to share

As far as the dress... you might try stalking sample sales and ebay... What size are you? If you're sample size (depends on your area, here in LA they were mostly 8s and 10s) you might be able to find something pretty easily. Maybe also open up your options to off-the-rack type options like the JCrew wedding collection?

Don't let yourself get freaked out--you do have plenty of time to plan an elopement, and it's going to be WONDERFUL!! Just enjoy the ride!

congrats! i got married in the keys in march - it was wonderful! where''s your wedding?

as for dresses, jcrew is a great suggestion. i''d also recommend nicole miller http://www.nicolemiller.com/bridal_08.html. ann taylor has wedding gowns, too, if you''re into more simple styles, and be sure to check nordstrom.com and bluefly.com. hope that helps!

Very exciting, Babyblue. It sounds like you''re doing your day in a way that will keep you happy and sane! I''ll second JCrew... they have some lovely dresses that would be great for the beach.

Congratulations on your engagement! It definitely seems like eloping is the best thing for you and you can enjoy the build up to your wedding day! Enjoy the planning!

Thank you. This will surely piss off most of our family members, but we figured if we needed we can do a reception at a later time. That way we would''ve already had the wedding WE wanted, and I wouldn''t get so stressed/upset about a party that is essentially for other people

AceP, we booked it at this small place called Casa Morada. We looked at a lot of places but decided that this place fit both our budget and our preference for a low key private wedding.

As for the dress, I''m still checking to see if I absolutely cannot get my dream dress so I can put that out of my mind

Also checking websites selling pre-owned dresses, ebay, etc and I''ll start checking with some bridal shops next weekend. Trying out dresses with people watching freaks me out a little though

YAY babyblue! That sounds like a wonderful idea. It will be so romantic and fun. It''s great that you were able to realize the issues you were having weren''t about your relationship at all. That''s always a good thing.

Congratulations!

Congratulations!!

I have a friend who had chosen her wedding dress from Pronovias, even though her heart was set on a Vera Wang. With around 6 weeks left till her wedding she decided to ask if VW can rush her the dress of her dreams. They said yes and she was thrilled! I believe it costs a little bit more to have a rush order but its worth it if you have a dress you really want.

(her name is Sidewalk on here.. I believe she posted here about her VW dress search)

I say if you want that dress you should have a bridal retailer contact the manufacturer and see what they can do.

Congratulations! I commend you both for doing what you want to do, versus settling to accomodate your family. I sometimes wish we had the joint nads to do this ourselves.

Have you looked at department stores? A lot of stores like Norstroms, Lord and Taylor, Dillards, etc, have wedding dresses. They''re not over the top dresses, more low-key, but you could definitely get one in time for December.

Congrats!

Have you tried preownedweddingdresses.com?

I don''t know what size you are, but here is a demetrios dresses similar to the one you like, and it''s new!
