I''ve been a member of a few boards and this is really the only one that is very "topic" based. Not much chatting about whatever goes on. If there isn''t a new or interesting topic to comment on, the board feels very slow.

Why do you think that is?

I''ve never been on another board so I''m not sure I understand the comparison--can you share some examples of what is discussed on other boards? Now I''m just curious!

Well for example, on another board I''m a member of I can post a vent about MIL, a sale going on at Target, a new pic of DD, ask for opinions on a dress, and post about Starbucks all within 10 minutes and it wouldn''t seem weird. The posts go very quickly and there''s always something new to talk about.

Here it seems that there are very specific topics and opinions are given for several days until a new topic is posted.

Are you referring to chat rooms?
I think those are as you describe.

Fora have threads.
Threads are topic based and there is an unwritten, or perhaps written, rule that you stay on topic.
To stray is called hijacking a thread - though it happens all the time.

Personally I don't mind the subject wandering around.
It keeps threads interesting.

No it isn''t a chat room although it certainly has that feel to it. You have to post a topic or thread in order to have discussions but it is very fast paced.

I like the feel of both but the other makes work go by much faster

Maybe there are 10 times the people participating on that board.

It is very fascinating to me how each board has a distinct personality.

You really have to read a forum for a while to learn what it is like.

That''s so funny because I feel like PS moves so quickly!

I don''t know why that is, how strange.

I have participated in both kinds of forum. One was in a travel forum, which had a infamous off topic area. It was extremely fast paced and topics would be created and explode into multipage epics in less than an hour. Sometimes, some wackyness would sweep accross different threads, turning everything into turmoil. It was fun, but exhausting and everyone had to be on their toes. It pretty much died off after a huge board war.

You really have to read a forum for a while to learn what it is like.
they also change - this forum has changed over the years depending on the personality of the people posting the most... jump in and contribute to it!

I agree. There are many times I just wanna chat--- ya know? But unless I have something worth writing a thread about- I don''t because I don''t feel this is the forum for it.

I wish there WAS just a place to chat. I''m on another forum (not as much as PS though) and they have an entire section (like show me the ring, hang out..) for just talking about anything non-related to the forum.. thing. (I''m losing words here).

Anyways..

i feel like this place does move quickly, i can hardly keep up! then again i remember the original days when there would be like 5 new posts every few DAYS. hahaha. now there are at least hundreds daily (if not more?!).

for 'chatting', i feel like most people go to IM or FB or something external, thank goodness. it would be too distracting if you actually were reading a topic.

When the board seems to be slow I pop over to the "Posted Today" view to see what''s going on elsewhere on PS.
