Not quite here a year, working early and late, sometimes ready to thread Garry's been looking for forever of that diamond that was supposed to disprove HCA but only really proved it...tell us about yourself.

I''m a UCLA undergrad, majoring in Math/Econ. Hopefully, I''ll be participating in the Putnam Competition this December.

I''ve got a mom, dad, little sister and brother, and a dog named Buddy. I was born in LA, grew up in OC, and now I''m back here for school.

If you ask me to cook, I''ll make you shrimp fettucine alfredo. Mmmm. For dessert, we''ll probably have cheesecake, either lemon curd, blueberry, or chocolate marbled.

I played the violin for a long time, so I enjoy listening to dead, Western composers. Except Bartok... can''t stand him. My two favorite musical time periods are the Romantic era and the doo-wop/R&B/soul of the 50s-early 70s. In contemporary music, I often listen to today''s hip-hop and R&B.

Currently reading Vikram Seth''s A Suitable Boy. It''s been a good read, although long at 1349 pages. Seth writes in almost a feminine style, although it does move quickly.

I''m looking forward to when Indian mangoes will be back on the US market, which will be about this time next year.

Putnam competition...impressive. I've got a friend named Zeno who could help you study, but if you engaged him, you'd probably never finish.

What will you have for lunch between the sessions? Also, any particular story about what brings you to Pricescope & keeps you here?

Good to have you here, and thanks for helping to clear up my HCA confusion, which seems to come up for me every few months.

I belong to a college and law board. Someone asked about buying diamonds online. He found it was way cheaper at Blue Nile than his local B&M. Lawyers, you know... they didn't have a clue as to what they were buying. Just picked something out that was expensive. I looked at the lab reports and things, found I didn't know the first thing about diamonds beyond the 4 Cs, and decided I needed to research. It's great that PS exists.

I find a little knowledge can be dangerous and also that with wealth comes laziness...you can just get it and not worry too much about the details! My dad and uncles went to UCLA, huge Bruin fans...they went there WAY back in the day! I grew up in the era where we went to Westwood Village to walk around and hang out at Tower Records and The Old World and have donuts at Stans!

Julie -- is there an e-ring in your near future?

Or is your wealth of diamond knowledge just a result of intellectual curiosity (stemming initially from helping your friend pick a diamond)?

Your posts are very helpful to others. I know that people here really appreciate your feedback.

There was talk about betrothal in the fall of last year, with a projected spring date. It has since fallen through, much to my dismay. Ah, well, perhaps it''s for the best-my parents wouldn''t have approved.

very intersting to know about you JulieN. You are always so helpful and extremely knowledgable and you are very much appreciated here on PS..

Yes, Julie, you are obviously extremely bright and a wonderful asset to the forum! With a math/economics major, no wonder you do so well with diamond stats!

Julie, you''ll have lots of good karma heading your way from helping us all on PS. Putnam is very very impressive. My head hurts even thinking about it.

Love your quick mind and concise helpful answers.

As a math wizz, did you hear about the google adv? they put a bill board up in silicon valley - with a puzzle.
The answer was a telephone 3

The people who called were offerred a job if they could solve the next over the phone problem (harder) and called that #.

I''m not nerdy enough for that stuff, I swear!

Midterm in 10 hours. I feel like such a kid.

Just wanted to add my .02c as well.

One thing I have noted in all your posts Julie is that you are not one-sided in your posts, recommendations or communications. You are a very balanced individual and I like that. Sure you have your preferences and are not afraid to say so, but the unbiased nature of your posts stand out to me and that is to be commended. You''re a valuable asset to this forum and its good to have your around.

Still in school?

If so, how are the academics going. If not, what are you doing these days.

(Also note...I get to test out for Dancing Fire whether a non person specified here can edit a post...see his recent thread in Hangout).
