PS job dust seems to work really well, so I thought I would make a request. I probably should have asked before the interview, but I think there's still time for the dust to work. I've been looking for quite some time and had an interview a couple of weeks ago for a job that I would love to have - it's well suited to my background and interests, and would be a short commute. I was the first of many to be interviewed, which I fear is not the greatest position to be in when other candidates are interviewing over a period of weeks. The hiring managers said they will make a decision tomorrow at the earliest. I would appreciate any job dust you could send my way.

Thanks!

Best of luck to you, mary poppins! Tons of job dust headed your way!

Yikes! I hope it is not too late for a cloud of good luck dust to be sent your way, Mary Poppins!!
DUST DUST DUST!!

Any news yet today? Fingers crossed yOu are the lucky candidate :praise:

Thanks for the dust, ladies. No news today so hoping to hear some good news tomorrow. When I called on Tuesday to inquire about hiring status and express continued interest (I interviewed almost four weeks ago and interviews were scheduled to end last week), the hiring manager said they had not made a decision yet. The manager said one of the panel members was on leave and scheduled to return today. This probably isn't the highest item on the returnee's list of priorities.

The situation seems a little odd because the manager said they would decide who to make an offer to after one telephone interview by a three member panel. I have never heard of any organization hiring a candidate without meeting in person at least once. For example, perhaps a first interview by phone and then a call to meet in person for second interview.

The position is with the government. DH suspects no in person or second interviews because the job is probably not really available to the general public - someone internally or otherwise known to the agency was already unofficially selected, but the government was required to advertise and interview before making an offer. Supposedly that happens often. I've been looking for quite some time, this job seems pretty ideal, I'm definitely capable of doing it and am trying not to be discouraged.

I hope to be celebrating this weekend!

Oh I hope you are too!!! Its a shame that there are politics involved when it comes to filling positions... it's not always the right candidate for the job, that is the successful applicant. Frustrating... but lets not think those thoughts--- I hope it is yours and you can pop the champagne on Friday night! :appl:
(DUST DUST DUST!!)

Thanks again for your support Okie girl and Enerchi. Just wanted to provide an update.

I didn't get the job I originally posted about, but shortly after was offered a temporary position at a corporation. I've been there for the past three weeks as an independent contractor and my role/responsibilities keep expanding to those that would normally be assigned to a long term person or an employee. Should be interesting to see how it evolves as I continue to look for work elsewhere.

ETA - as a follow up to my prior post, a friend told me she knows of another government agency that hires after just one phone interview. I still think that's a little odd, but apparently it happens.

Congratulations Mary Poppins, I hope you get where you want to be or continue to grow the way you would like in your current job. Best wishes!!!

Congratulations! PS dust works sometimes in unexpected ways. I hope this position leads to a more permanent one for you. Dust for that!

well, you just NEVER know what will come around the corner!! Stay positive and keep sending out good vibes! I'm glad that you found a contract job and it sure sounds like they are happy with your work, giving you responsibilities similar to a long term permanent employee... maybe this is 'the corner'?!!?

DUST that it all works out in your favour! Thanks for the update, Mary Poppins!

Another update.

My contract got extended. I have two bosses, each in a different department. One told me he recommended me to work on a project with the head honcho who has been hearing good things about me. I am waiting to hear details about the project. The other told me about my anticipated continuing involvement with her department's team through at least December, but she also told me that she is over budget. She definitely sees the value I bring to the process though, so would not want to see me have to leave.

In the meantime, I have been applying for other jobs. I had a phone screening interview last week with a place that selected me based on the new areas I've been learning and activities I've been working on at the temporary job, as well as my prior work experience. The temporary job experience listed on my resume definitely contributed to me being a candidate. The interviewer said they were about done with phone interviews. Hopefully next week I will hear that I've been chosen for an in-person interview.

Thank you for your continued encouragement and dust.

Hi,

Good Luck and here's to retro-active dust.

Annette

I don't know what your field is, but its pretty impressive that between your experience/knowledge and I imagine your work ethic that so quickly people rely on you and find you a good candidate. Dust, dust, dust, but most importantly, keep on doing whatever you're already doing, because that positive feedback sounds damn impressive!
