Long story short, my principal is leaving (unexpected) and we have an AP who is wishy washy on being principal. The head of our Charter system has asked me if I am interested in either
1. Principal
2. Interim principal if I like it and they like me no search
3 AP if AP becomes Principal.
also throw into the mix they may create a Dean of Students position.

It seems I am on the top of the short internal list. I would take any and all of the choices. leaning more towards AP as it would be my first admin position. I am thrilled that he came to me as well as asked my current principal if she thought I would do well.
So I am asking the PS collective power to sprinkle job dust my way... not sure when the decision will be made but needs to be soon, as the school year is almost over!

Elisa, do you have administrative credentials? Just wondering. My daughter has been in a charter school for 10 years, and I have seen principals come and go (not of their own accord). You are much more at risk of losing your job than you would be in a regular public school since the board has much more power, at least in my state. I have seen an several principals be replaced over that 10 years. You obviously are a great teacher but be careful about putting yourself into a very stressful and potentially dangerous position. I realize your school may be totally different, but there is a lot of stress in the principal position at any school and the longer hours and work year to go along with it.

DS thanks for asking, yes I am state certified and have my Masters in Ed Leadership. Our Charter school has a very supportive board and this principal is only our second. She has family issues so she is moving out of town. I am confident in my skill set and think the time is right. I hear what you are saying about boards being powerful, but ours seems to be fair and supportive of faculty, staff and administration.

That is great that you already have the credentials and don't have to take the classes. Since an administrative position is what you were after, then this sounds like a perfect opportunity! I'd take the principal position as an interim probably as long as they put a person with a temporary contract in my teaching position. That way you could do it for a year and see if that was really what you wanted and still have the teaching position to fall back on if needed. I think asst principals are paid little more than teachers but generally work a lot more hours and have to do all the tasks the principal doesn't want to do, so I would skip that since you are well qualified for the principal position and have been working in the school and know how things work there. Good luck to you!

What a great opportunity. I hope you get the position you most desire. Sending dust your way.

Sending you lots of "you go girl" dust!

ooooh! Best of luck Elisateach! How wonderful that an amazing opportunity is presenting itself to you - dust dust DUST for you in your quest for one of the postings!!

I remember you won the teacher of the year award, so you're probably a shoe-in for one of the positions - best of luck!!!

No advice here. Just lots of dust!
