Where are you headed this summer? Mini trips? Big vacations? Share your destinations/plans!

Last summer, I got a bunch of help from PSers planning DH and my mini-trip to Madison, Wisconsin (thanks again!!). This year, our mini-trip will be to Kansas City, Missouri - we just booked everything last night, so I''m pretty excited for the 2009 edition of our anniversary celebration roadtrip. We''ll be catching some baseball, going to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, hanging out at a jazz festival, seeing the zoo, eating some great KC bbq, and doing a little bit of shopping (poor DH - I just sent him to the link of the amazing shopping area I found).

We''ll also be headed out to Annapolis/DC this summer for a wedding, which is fun since neither of us have been there before, though there will be a lot less sightseeing.

Ok, your turn!

This summer FI and I are renting a house on the Vineyard for a week. I can''t wait!!!

We just got back from a week in Florida with the in-laws. They have a time share, so it was minimal cost to us. We''re also headed up to my family in Tennessee for the Memorial Day weekend. We''ve never done Nashville together- it''s always been all family, all the time, so this time I think I''m going to plan some sight seeing while we''re there. I''d like to hit the Frist Center for the Arts. I''d try and swing the Country Music Hall of Fame simply because I''ve never been and I grew up in the area. That''s a pipe dream though unless I go by myself because there''s no way DH will do that.

Our big trip for the year is at the end of August- 7 nights/8 days in Mexico in an all inclusive resort that we loooooove. Just hoping the swine flu thing is GONE by then. We''re going with friends this year and other than one day to drive out to Chichen Itza, I plan to lay by the pool and have the waitress bring me drinks.

5 days in Carmel, CA in July for a little romantic getaway sans kid.
11 days in Sydney Australia in September, again sans kid.

I''m taking FF on a secret birthday trip to Mackinac Island in a few weeks. Shhhh! He doesn''t know!
11.gif

We also may be taking a weekend trip to Vegas over Labor Day.

FF also mentioned planning a weekend to Toronto.

We''re going to Portugal for a week in August, my cousin is having a DW. The whole family and a bunch of friends are going - about 90 of us I think! All staying around the same place! And I just got a REALLY good deal on an apartment for the week. Can''t wait!!

In mid-June DH and I are going to a Phish concert in Indianapolis. It will be an overnight trip and our first time leaving our son overnight
32.gif
I know it will be fun because we are also going to Tiffany''s

My DH and I are going to Vegas for 8 days in August to celebrate his birthday.

We''re also going to Galena IL, which is a small resort town ... we''ll be renting a huge home, inviting lots of friends, BBQing, shopping, pontoon boat cruising, golfing, horseback riding, swimming, visiting the spa and more! This is going to be very relaxing, low key and we''ll also be celebrating our anniversary there! I cannot wait!

2 weeks in Costa Rica for our honeymoon! Wooooo!

We''re going to do some scuba diving, zip lining, white water rafting, volcano sightseeing, wildlife watching...the whole shebang!

I think I''m more excited about this than the actual wedding

Yay! I love how PSers find such interesting places to visit. Portugal, Australia, Mexico, Costa Rica - I hope you all post travel candy pics!!

Diva, Phish is touring again?! I love Indy - it's a great city to get around.

Elle, DH and I talked (for a short time) about doing a DW at Mackinac Island. It looks wonderful! Have you been there before?

April, I love the idea of sight-seeing at "home." DH is from Springfield, IL, (smaller scale than Nashville, of course, but some interesting historic stuff), and a few times I've dragged him around so I can see all the tourist stuff : )

Italia - I ADORE Galena - it is the perfect weekend getaway. DH and I went for the first time over spring break, and were there again just there a couple of weekends ago - it's BEAUTIFUL right now. I woke up to seeing a hot air balloon climb up over a ridge. Why can't every morning start like that?

Bia - Ohhh, the Vineyard! I have a few friends who grew up going there in the summers. It sounds wonderful!

First, FI and I are off to Italy for our honeymoon! I cannot wait. Right when we get back, I am going to be in a friend''s wedding in the mountains of Colorado--three more days of celebrations! Later in the summer, we''ll be doing weekend trips to DC, Seattle, and Newport, RI.

mini trip - Vegas...

mega trip ??? undecided. A lot of weddings this year.. actually there''s been a lot of weddings the past 3 years!

California for 6 days over Memorial Day weekend and then hopefully honeymoon for a week in August to an island somewhere (not sure yet where though! Bermuda, Bahamas, Aruba,...??)

Hope everyone has fun on their vacations!

I''d rather have a big trip to another country. I''ve only been outside of the US once, and that was to go to Mexico. I''d love to go to Ireland

Lol El, I hope you like DC. Having lived here for so long, I''d love the chance to go anywhere BUT DC! Lol. Really though, I hear it''s very nice from people who visit here. When you live somewhere, you don''t really look at it that way, I guess.

(That always makes me laugh. My close friend from Georgia visited me a few years ago for the first time since I moved up here when I was 7, and she was so excited to come here. She was like "it''s the nation''s capital, the WHITE HOUSE, isn''t that COOL to live by!?" And I''m like. Um. I guess so? Lol it''s just another city to me.)

Feral, my friend who lives there studied poli sci in college, so she''s been wanting to live there since she could comprehend Meet the Press, haha :) So I when I hear about DC, it''s always positive.

When I was younger, my parents took me on one of those summer vacations where we drove to every. single. civil war. battlefield. in. the. U.S., and when we were passing DC, my mom and I were begging my dad to stop. We were yelling "SMITHSONIAN! WHITE HOUSE! LINCOLN MEMORIAL! SHOOOOPPING!" and then started naming everything in the Smithsonian that we could think of, like "RUBY RED SHOES!" and my dad said "NO! DC is the murder capital of the world!!" and kept driving. It was one of the most sad experiences of my childhood, and I''m a little bummed that my second time in the DC vicinity will still not include a trip to the Smithsonian. Though, from what I''ve heard, the best time to visit is really during cherry blossom season.

We are taking the family (all 6 of our kids) + the two older boys are taking friends and we are heading to a condo on Myrtle Beach, SC. We are heading out May 29th after the kids have their last day of school. They get out early yet start the 2nd full week in August.

The mega trip is still being planned.... I wanted to fly into PR and take a 5 or 6 island Caribbean cruise in August or sometime in October for my birthday.

Virginia...........as usual.
20.gif

If we were following the rotation that we discussed a million times with his parents we''d be visiting Maine.

I''ve been to the island several times, but haven''t actually stayed on the island. I love Mackinac Island! Its gorgeous, and tons of fudge! What more can you ask for?

The one thing I lurve about FL is that I don''t have to go far for the summer...just a 10 minute drive to the beach
face23.gif

We are staying at a resort on Fort Lauderdale beach for memorial weekend. Doesn''t make much sense really since its 10 minutes away but its fun to pretend we''re tourists.

We''ll also be heading to Sanibel Island in June as one final quiet vacation. After the babe arrives, we''ll go to Orlando for a week or two mostly to introduce her to our family there but also becuase I

Orlando.
Sanibel Island is so pretty! I wish I could go with you. I have so many happy childhood memories of vacationing there with my family. I still have some of the sand dollars I collected on the beach.

My husband and I are going to the Smokey mountain national park in Tennessee for a week in June.

Yep, they are. It''s my husband''s fave band and he''s getting me back for making him go to a Mariah Carey concert a few years ago. The trip to Tiffany''s was part of the deal

In June, the kids and I are going to Naples, FL to visit my grandparents for a week. My parents will be there, too, but unfortunately Steve can''t go.

In August, we''ve rented a house in Cooperstown, NY where we''ll be with my parents and sister. My dad turned 60 this year, and he''s a huge baseball fan, so we''re going to celebrate there. We''ll do some non-baseball things too! Steve and the kids and I will go straight from there to my in-laws'' house in Massachusetts for a week.

I do most of my work traveling in the summer as well. This summer, I''ll be going to Pensacola, southern AZ/northern Mexico, Nashville, and just up the road to Baltimore.

I''m also hoping we can take a couple of day trips with the kids. We live in the DC area, so Gettysburg, Harper''s Ferry, Richmond, Charlottesville, and Baltimore are not too far away.

In a week I am aiming the Blue Horse westward toward the coast, to attend Primary Daughter''s graduation from UBC''s Oceanography faculty. From there, I wiill deliver her to The Gorge in Washington State so that she can party with her friends at the Sasquatch Festival.
From there, I will meet up with some Alberta buddies and continue southwestward, until exhausted by California coastline, where we will head east toward Las Vegas to take in the Jewellery Show. Did I mention motorcycling? Yes, two wheels mandatory.

I have a PT job now that I will continue during the summer and we plan to use that money to help finance a trip, most likely to Vegas! We had hoped to go last year, but things came up.

Italia - Where in Vegas are you guys staying? Dh and I have already been there five times, so this time, we''re contemplating getting a cheaper room, such as at the Luxor, so we have more $ for food and fun stuff.

I just started planning my summer trip: Singapore, Indonesia (annual visit to family), and Thailand. The planning is super stressful but I''m so excited about the trip!
kittybean, Italy for honeymoon! I''m so jealous!!!
