I know there''s some helpful, crafty people out there and I was wondering if anyone had some good recommendations for books/websites for jewelry making and beading. I''d be looking for more beginner books/sites. Thanks.

I''ve got some magazines downstairs..Lemme go look in a bit and see what they''re called. There''s a website to buy beads cheap too..firemountainbeads.com or something..I can''t remember. Been a looong time since I first started getting into it-then no time or money to pursue it!

Bead Style Magazine, and Bead and Button Magazine. Both have online sites, although I''m not all that familiar with them, being a print girl and all. They almost always have a section on basic techniques in the back and can give you some ideas about more online resources and books. Wire wrapping is really pretty simple and doesn''t take too long to master.

There are lots of online places for supplies. FireMountain and RioGrande come to mind, with RioGrande being quite the one-stop shop for all things jewelry.

I''ve recently graduated to hand-making chain out of fused silver, (which you have to be really nuts to do. See: "Classical Loop-in-Loop Chains & Their Derivatives" by Stark and Smith) and have purchased a proper jeweler''s torch to go further into silversmithing.

I guess the point of that last statement is be careful! Jewelry making can get VERY addictive, and like any addiction, it gets LARGER! :)

Thanks for the help. I''ll check out those sites. Do you know how the supply sites are with shipping (I''m in Canada)?

If you want something for metalwork, I recommend Robert von Neumann''s The Design and Creation of Jewelry. The best jewelry textbook I own. For a reference work, then Oppi''s Jewelry - Concepts and Technology. And, of course, Ganoksin. The amount of information is incredible and the discussion list is amazing - and free (but do join in the raffle to help support the cause).

If you mean, however, strictly beading, then I am afraid I can''t help you

Thanks for the recommendations. Any more sources for beading?
