Hi All,
I know that there are widely varying opinions about jewelry insurance on this board. I choose to insure my jewelry because I feel more comfortable wearing it when I know that it's well-covered against all sorts of things. I use the same company as my home/auto coverage which is one of the most well-known in the U.S. It just worked out that way, it was a hold-over from when I rented and had a jewelry rider to go with my renter's insurance.
Anyway, I went in today with the appraisal for the tennis bracelet I just got (posted about it over the weekend - yay). I met with one of the agents and he was clearly blown away by it's stated value. Yes, it's a lot to me, which is why I'm insuring it, but you cannot tell me a national company hasn't dealt with jewelry items valued at quintuple or more of it's value. He is not new there so I doubt it was his first time and he seemed further surprised by the other items already listed on my jewelry rider. It was a kind of odd and funny moment. I wasn't at all offended, it's just that he kind of stammered, "That's a...that's a...sure is a super nice band...I mean bracelet!" It is the first time I've ever been in a situation when someone was visibly surprised by my jewelry. It's kind of like when people go to the post office to send something Registered and the clerk seems surprised when you're needing to insure it for $xx,xxx.
It surprised me. Anyone else have a similar experience wherein someone was clearly like this
