Jewelry fashion mistakes?

Enormous disc-style stud earrings. Big earrings in general. Huge. Big enough to balance out hair that was equally waaaaay too big.

I am wearing my starfish earrings to work on Monday. A little silver polish will set them to right!
 
I wouldn't have thought I had any regrets but I do own a few of the pieces mentioned here and I don't wear them.

I have a couple pairs of the ginormous earrings of the 80's. I wore them to work with dresses and pantyhose (insert eyeroll). One pair is a gorgeous turquoise of the kind you cant find anymore-a circle the size of a nickel in a larger square of silver with cut off corners. I can't get rid of them because the turquoise is so pretty.

My husband bought me a black hills gold set of earrings and a necklace right before we were married. I never liked it but never had the heart to tell him. Still sits in one of my jewelry boxes
 
I worked several jobs during college and bought myself a few small 10K gold pieces from Macy's "fine jewelry" section as a gift to myself. The quality and early '90s styling were absolutely cringeworthy! (I did keep a couple pieces for sentimental reasons, though)

I'm crazy about antique and vintage jewelry and many dealers offer pieces from the early '90s, but I don't think I'll ever get over my hangup about jewelry from that era!
 
Of course in the 80s I had the big plastic colorful earrings and bracelets everyone wore, earrings bigger than my ears, lol.
I did buy a few 24kt Baht gold pieces when I lived in Japan, because everyone had them, still to this day sitting in my jewelry box unworn with tags still on them, lol. I wonder how much they are worth?
 
My first engagement ring.

I was vaguely aware that I wanted an old cut, and felt so anxious about the shopping process I basically said "yes" to the 2nd ring I tried on. I didn't realize it was an early round brilliant - so, not really what I wanted.

I thought I wanted warm. It was also an M color (actually, I suspect lower...) and has visible carbon inclusions.

I LOVED it at first, I had never had my own diamond, then came to realize that the yellowy tint looked really not nice on my very pale, pinkish skin. I talked myself into loving it...out of guilt.

I was devastated that it didn't work out. The whole thing was very emotional.

Yellow gold herringbone chain. It tore the little hairs out at the back of my neck each time I wore it. It never laid quite flat and developed kinks. I also had a yellow gold snake chain. It also tore the hairs out at the back of my neck and my hair would twist around it. In the early 90's I sold both for gold weight.

I stopped wearing yellow gold after that. I have very pale skin and look terrible in yellow gold. I prefer and only wear white metals now.

Glad it was not just me! Those chains were painful to wear. And gross to pick out the hair wrapped around them.

I wear either wheat chains or cable chains these days in white gold. Never have that hair puling problem.
 
Anything plated gold over a base metal. Stuff discolored horribly in a matter of months and turned me away from bold, chunky metallic bracelets. Of course, now I can afford gold ones, even platinum, but my tastes have changed.

No kids, just cats! Oh god, I love nanaimo bars!!
 
Thankfully I have no jewellery regrets except maybe being swayed to go more minimalist with my green sapphire ring - I removed the side stones and it made it very bland and lost it's uniqueness... :(sad

I had one of those ugly waterfall rings! They were very popular at one time. I still see them in pawn shops sometimes.

Well, the sapphires could be the falling water and the diamonds the white foam when the cascading water hit the rocks below!!!
 
When I was a teen, my signature look was wearing multiple rings. I think I normally wore about five at a time (between two hands, of course), and they were mainly 10 or 14K gold with wee tiny diamond chips. I remember I had a wee sapphire soli and a tiny ruby flanked with diamond chips. These days, I prefer my jewelry much more minimal!

Also, I'll admit to owning a few poorly cut gemstones, purchased in the "before I knew about Pricescope" times when I had no clue what a window was.
