Welll, I''m of two minds. On the one hand, I agree that would shouldn''t outright ask, but can open the door and hope they offer. And on the other hand, I''m thinking that if another bride started talking about things they needed to buy, it wouldn''t occur to me to offer... I''d just assume they wanted new things, or things picked that are their own taste. Not because I''m sentimental... I have no idea if I am or will be about this stuff. I''m not sane right now so I can''t judge how I''ll feel about the wedding stuff. I tend to dislike keeping unnecissary sentimental stuff around through, so I suspect I''ll want to unload quite a bit of it on ebay or someplace.

I think may be asking if they had any leftover items they might be willing to sell would work? If someone asked to buy some of my stuff, I''d be likely to just give it to them depending on what it was. Or loan it to them if I wanted to keep it and trusted them. Heck I bought the cutest wedding cake topper I''m not gonna use, and I keep thinking I should just stick it on ebay and re-coup... but I know if someone asked me for it... I''d just hand it over happy it had a good home.

Mass email asking for people to lend you stuff? No.
Asking people in general to lend you wedding stuff? No.
Talking about your wedding, and seeing if anyone will offer to help? Sure.

I would lend stuff out, but the problem is that you don''t know who is more sentimental about their stuff and who isn''t. The perception is that people might be offended that you are putting your hand out and asking for stuff for free. Perhaps a way around that would be to ask people if they are SELLING any of their wedding items, you would be interested in buying second hand stuff because it will save you money. Who knows, you might get a person willing to offer to donate then.

I agree with TGal - I would definitely ask to buy or have items donated rather than borrow them unless it was a family member, but that''s just me. I''d be too paranoid about ruining someone''s wedding shoes or jewelry, etc. I would just single out people whom you know have items you would like to use and hint that you needed something like what they had at their wedding and see if they bite. Good luck!

I have quite a few friends who are getting married in the next year and I have said to all of them that if there is anything they are planning to go and buy and thinking ''blimey all this $$$'', then to give me a call and if I have it then they can borrow it.

I''d be the same with most of the people I work with, but I''d want them to ask me specifically rather than a generic email.

I would never lend my veil or tiara (they''re both antiques - the veil is from 1880 and very delicate), or my wedding jewellery (present from DH) or my dress - but they''re welcome to borrow anything else.

Not at all! After your done you can pass on some stuff to me! We''ll call it the PS fund! We''ll all "recycle" wedding things! LOL! Then we''ll take pics and post them on here so everyone can see the creative ways we''re using the same items!

LOL! Don''t forget the * at the bottom of the page that says PS''er pays shipping, lol!

I definitely don''t think it''s tacky if you end up getting some co-workers to lend you some wedding accessories, but I definitely wouldn''t e-mail... Bringing up your wedding/things on your "to do" list during lunch or something might be more natural and might end up getting some offers without having to ask. I know my co-workers were offering me things left and right whenever I mentioned I needed ANYTHING (extra thank you notes? no thank you!). Anyway, I ended up shopping around and buying all my own stuff... except pearl earrings I borrowed from of my bridesmaid''s stepsisters. Good luck getting some leads around your office!

And about the money bag --- I had heard of them but never seen one. Most weddings I have been to have had a box/chest/birdcage thing for envelopes.... Welll, my aunts (Italian & from NY) told me before my wedding that those boxes OFFEND them and I better not have one. They said they hated when people don''t come around to pick up gifts. What did I do? Well I ended up having one but also went around to my dad''s side of the family and EVERY couple handed me their envelope ! LOL... I actually tried to find a money bag, but I couldn''t and just gave up the search.... Hope you have better luck than me!
