A five year old girl who is 3 ft tall and weighs 170 lbs? Anyone else heard of this, or is this just a myth?...

Sadly, I''ll believe it.
Cases like this are so sad

no doubt she is obese, but I don''t believe that she is 3ft tall and 170lbs. In the picture there is no way that she is that heavy. Another thing that I find odd about this, and I am not sure that it is from my ignorance or if it is just strange, but there were potato chips and what may be soda. If this is in a place that her parents are not able to feed themselves or other children I seriously doubt that they are buying chips and soda for her to eat. Sensationalism?

They also say that she has a "glandular problem"... She may very well have one, but feeding her whatever she want, whenever she wants is definitely the major source of the obesity!!!

Potato chips, chocolate covered donut, orange soda! She is way taller that 3 ft. She''s almost as tall as the neighbor giving her bananas.

unfortunately I have seen this too many times with kids so young. It breaks my heart. I don''t like to assume since it can be a medical issue but I''ve known a little girl who was 3 yr old and over 100 lbs. Her mom let her have all the junk food she wanted. She''s 5 yr old now and can''t keep up with the kids in the playground. So very sad.

I took care of a very sick three year old who was obese, I don''t remember his exact weight, but it was around 100 lbs. It was a combination of a genetic condition and parents who were not following though with his care. When I took care of him, he got every sick and ended up needing some very aggressive interventions. After seeing him, I would have a have trouble believing a 3 year old could get to 170 lbs, but I am sure I can be proven wrong.

Thats so sad. And I do believe she is 170 lbs from the photo. My 5 year old daughter is 50 lbs and does not have any fat on her (she is very tall too). So I do believe that based on that photo, this girl weighs at least 3x what my daughter weighs.

Gland problem or not, its the parents that are to blame. A 5 year old can not buy the food or cook the food and someone is giving her the food.

Poor child is going to be set upf or a life of health problems.

When I see morbidly obese children I feel so sad for them. Not always but often I see they have at least one and often 2 obese parents. And that is sad as well.

HI:

Anybody's guess--so here is mine: Prader-Willi syndrome?

cheers--Sharon

i second your guess, canuk-gal. i'm a special ed specialist and, before i read your post, thought, aha!... prader-willi's!

Thritto to that. Prader-Willi is exactly what I was thinking when I saw the first pic. I saw a show on it and it is really sad. Parents having to deadbolt the fridge and pantry.

Interesting. I did not think of that. Could explain it. But still sad.

Children with these sorts of eatting disorders are murder to control re. food. I have 2 friends with boys who fit into this type of category and it is a full time job for the parents to stop the children wanting to eat 24/7. As long as the kids are awake they cry for food. It`s obvious that a parent cant make a child eat so much. I know my 3 skinny kids wont eat even if I try to force them. It is interesting to note that my 2 friends are dealing with other behavioural and learning dissabilities also with their sons, not just food problems.

The parents in this story would not be trying to stuff their child with food. The article explains that they are helpless to know what to do as they cant afford to feed her as much as she needs. It`s obvious that she has some medical problem and needs some (too expensive for these people) drugs and therapy to help her.

Not a bad one, that would be mine. You have to lock down everything that is editable with those kids.
