Los Angeles Times ran a pic this morning that caught my eye.
I don't have any interest in the teen idol Justin Bieber, but what I noticed was his ring.

Sorry I didn't capture a link, and I can't find it now.

Is that a diamond?
If so this may start a trend of men wearing colored diamonds.
Stranger things have happened.

I don't know what that is...but it looks like a toy.

If it's a new trend, I don't like it. :knockout:

Looks like a wad of bubblegum to me.

yeah it looks like plastic?

4 screen captures from the youtube video above.
The boys' facial expressions don't say bubble gum, plastic or a toy.
They look impressed by the bauble.

The ring is on a his largest finger now and still does not fit him.
Since he has it in only a few of the many pics taken at this event, I'm guessing it is a ring he borrowed for a moment.
It must have belonged to one of the rich celebrities sitting near him in those prestigious front rows of a Lakers game at Staple's Center.

He looks like he's enjoying it. I got no problem with that. But "Biebs"? Excuse me while I go throw up. And "yes that would be Tom Cruise's son"? OMG! Tom Cruise's adopted son is a real person and he actually go places with Biebs! What a bunch of cloying nonsense.

agreed.

I figured out what's really bothering me about this other than the cloying name dropping. I agree with Kenny- the boys' expressions show they are impressed and maintain that's great. Diamonds are a girl's best friend? Most famous gem traders and jewelers have been men. Men in the Tudor era (see avatar) decked themselves out in jewels and elaborate gold chains. Finally, I can't find anything inherently feminine or masculine about diamonds or rings per se. But men's rings are often to me at least caricatures of masculinity. They say to me: look at me, I'm a man's ring, I'm huge and bold, and did I mention huge? Ok, sorry for the rant.
