I think this type of idea is very dependent on how you phrase the question. For those who said that it's no one's business how someone spends their time and money, would you still feel that way if you found out your best friend's husband was spending money on hookers and blow?
Blech. You know my husband had a friend from HS who "grew up" and later borrowed $500 from my dh and we found out he DID spend it on hookers and blow!

We never got our money back. oh, and he had the nerve to call my dh asking to borrow money for a seasons lift ticket.

(Maybe we should take him to small claims court!)

Okay, tell me WHY would you lend them money in the first place? Haven''t they demonstrated in the past (I would venture to guess) that they have NO money management skills? lol Take them to small claims court.

no proof...most Asian people lend money to their friends base on trust,so no IOU notes or anything like that. anyhow, these loans were way over the amount for small claim court.

I worked with quite a few Asian folks who did not get their home loans from a bank.
The loan came from a few extended family members and was quickly repaid because owning money can be considered a shameful thing.
When older and better off they are expected to continue this tradition for the younger relatives.

It's a great system IF you are raised in it.
If you are raised in the American system family expecting to have a say in how you spend your money can result in resentment.

So, it is understandable that marriages between Americans and Asians sometimes have tension associated with how money is spent.
A nice diamond is a very visible expensive thing.
