So just a question for those who enrolled in a family gym. Is it worth it? do you go as frequently as you had imagine? we have a pretty sweet family fitness center which has daycare, pool nice workout equipment and some extras for $50/month per person after $100 family enrollment fee, and wondered if it was worth it? because DH/I work all day- DH goes to school 2x a week night and kids go to daycare, so we thought we might be able to swing in 3 nights/sat at the fitness center.. but not sure if we will really will commit to 3x a week. I also feel a bit guilty again with the daycare at the gym thing too

for the kids, but its a nice little kids activity center I guess. So your thoughts? for those who have thought about it, or is enrolled in one.

It is only worth it if you use it

yeah, thats my problem, not sure if I would use it often enough to warrant a membership,

Yes! Ours is pricey too but so worth it. I am a SAHM so sometimes the ONLY break I get is working out. Plus it is a chance for her to socialize. They play outside, color, sing...I don''t think DD minds at all! In fact she leaps into their arms so I think your kids might like it (even though he already goes to preschool). I go to the gym 4x a week (for classes). Plus they have awesome pools. I have a water baby (as seen in my AV) so it is worth it. Hopefully my DH will start using the gym again so we can really get our money''s worth! BTW I think the costs KEEP me going. It is good motivation for me. Could you try it and then cancel if you feel like you aren''t using it enough? I would think the use of pool for the summer might be worth it on its own.

I agree with Tacori in that sometimes the price of our gym membership keeps me going. I''d hate for that money to go to waste! I also agree on doing it on a trial basis if that opportunity is available!!

That''s a great deal, I would go for it if you think you will use it.

We have a family membership to the local YMCA - we pay $100/month, but the enrollment fee was waived because we signed up while they were havivng a special.

My husband rarely goes (sometimes he swims laps on weekends) but I take my son there 4-5 days per week. They have a great "kids gym" daycare, where he has a blast. Since I''m a SAHM with an only child, he really loves going because it''s a chance for him to play with other kids, and it gives me something to do during the day outside of regular mom stuff.

It''s really been worth it for our family, but even at a good price, it would be a total waste of money if we didn''t use it

i agree--depends on how committed of a gym user you are NOW. (not in your head..haha).

For me, forget it. I used to have full gym upstairs in my apt building..state of the art, with pool, whirpool, tv''s, new equipment. I went zero times. Sad! My DH however has discipline and goes every week no matter what, so for him it''s worth it. We don''t have a full gym now that we have a house--just a few items, but it would be worth it for the convenience.

alrighty, I''m seriously considering. I just feel bad for my kiddos since I take them to day care 3-4 times a week all day and to come home and take them again to another "activity day care," guess its just my guilty conscious talking. You all are right, since I"m paying so the motivation is there to utilize the gym more frequently.

I remembered when I was single, had all that in my apt building too, but only went twice.

I just need discipline.... guess it boils down to that ehh.

Doesn't sound like much fun for the kids. Kids in daycare all day and then to add 3 nights a week? Who actually wants the gym more, you or DH? Cuz it sounds like DH is already pretty busy with work, school and being a dad. Are the kids able to use the pool?

DH actually went last night to try it out with our 4 year old, took a tour (put DD in the activity center) then they went swimming, I went once last year to check it out briefly. He says DD loved it, since they have some very cool stuff for the kids, I asked her and she said she loved it as well, My other is only 7 months (they take 3 months and upward). I''m just torn, since I know that we need to get back in the swing of things fitness wise, and I thought that too with DH being in school and how busy it would be and how much I would like to give our kids more attention as well.

It''s certainly a good opportunity to get young kids comfortable with water and learn to swim. (especially if they offer swimming lessons)

Is there a monthly fee for the kids, or are they free and it''s just the two of you at $100/mo?

That would make a big difference to me.

If it''s just the two fees, then ask yourself if you believe you will have gotten $3,700.00 worth of "health" out of it in three years. If the answer is no, don''t join. Personally, I''d spend a couple of hundred on a kid jogger and go walk around the block for free several nights a week. If you can''t motivate yourself to walk out the door for free on a regular basis, you definitely won''t motivate yourself to load everyone up in a car and drive somewhere to work out.
