I got one for Christmas, and by no means needed one. I use it as a grocery list and a to-do list.

ETA: I will say... it has been pretty good for the LO on the plane. DH has Little Einstein App and a bunch of muppets videos from Youtube downloaded on his, and helped pass time while on our flight over Christmas.

Why don't you sell it? They're going for good money (and quickly!) on craigslist. Use your earnings on a pretty notepad and something that makes you happy!

It is a great size for kids. Last night my boys were playing a Smurf game on there. lol! They don't even know about the Smurfs (probably the first time they've seen them) and had a lot of fun.

Maybe I'm way old fashion, but I still hand write lists. I buy magnetic list pads at Michael's for $1.00 each and put a few up on my fridge and change them according to season. lol Funny thing is I use them for notes to people and always receive compliments on the cute little designs. lol

I bought one this summer the day after I returned from a 16 day trip to Singaore and Bali and vowed I would never lug my laptop...bag...cord...brick of a battery...around the world--or anywhere else--with me again. It's hasn't literally changed my life in the why that my cell phone and crackberry have, but damn close.

I do still have both a laptop and a desktop, and for a document of any size or complexity (spreadsheets, etc.) I'm heading for the real keyboard, but if I'm just tooling around, ipad it is. And honestly, if the ipad had been out when I bought my laptop five years ago, I think I would have ended up with that and been just has happy.

The best part for me is that I am online INSTANTLY. No more waiting for ye ol' laptop to boot up and then seaching...hoping for...searching some more...for a network. 3G baby -- voila!

And the part where I can blow up everyone's bling with the touch of my fingers and get an even closer look at the goodies... ain't complainin' about that either! :cheeky:

P.S. - I do have to caveat all this with the fact that I don't have an iphone because I am too fond of the crackberry keyboard, so if I had an iphone I might not be as impressed with my ipad.

DeeJay, you probably don't need to make the change since you have an iPad, but if you're inclined, DO IT. I was a blackberry loyalist for ages because I love how it handles business and everyone said a touch keyboard would be horrible for me. It took me a few days to find one I loved (the stock one that comes with my Sony is beyond terrible and I thought I had made a HUGE mistake in changing over at first, because I really need my phone to be a business tool more than anything) but once I found one that worked (HTC_IME), I was actually 2 to 3 times FASTER typing on the thing. I tried typing on the blackberry the other day and found it hugely clunky and hard to type now. I should admit though, that I was never fast on the blackberry.

There are so many types of keyboards out there that you can find something that works for you. I think the iPhone's keypad is good too? The HTC keyboard I sideloaded has the mic, which is fantastically accurate, but I find that I can actually type faster than waiting for my voice words to process.

Man, something like an ipad would have changed my backpacking world 8 years ago...it's actually kind of mind boggling. I actually even backpacked around without a phone (since verizon didn't work overseas).

Silly- it was a gift from the in laws. They would notice if it went missing. Lol.

MC- glad to see that someone else uses it for their kids! C is only 9 months old, and doesn't watch movies yet, so the DVD player isn't an option. However, the clips and short videos that we can download onto the iPad work great.

I do have to age that it is much better for traveling. No laptop bag, laptop, chord, battery, mouse...etc. So much beter.

Can you upload photos to PS on the iPad?

Happy Birthday Hawaiianorangetree!

I'll let you know about the uploading of photos when I figure that out. DH said something about synching it w/your pc. Something I often do is take a photo w/my phone, send it to my hotmail and then save on my hard drive. lol

If there is a way, I have not figured it out. The problem is that when you try to upload there is no HD to search, or desktop...

Oh and I also recommend the shutterfly app for iphone/ ipad if you guys use that. It makes uploading the pictures pretty easy.

Thanks MC! I had a great day :))

My husband got me these little attachments that I can plug a USB camera cord or my memory card straight into the iPad to upload and that seems to work well.

I am going to download the shutterfly ap and have a look at that. Too bad we can't upload photos to PS from the iPad, the idea of starting up my laptop now just seems too hard! :D

My friends have a a 10 month old and they let her play with the iPad all the time. They have a few different drawing / painting apps that she loves. She runs her fingers over the screen and the colours and patterns change so she feels like she creating something on the screen. The only problem is when she sees my iPad she thinks it is her toy to play with so I downloaded a painting app too and have been playing with it and then emailing the finished masterpieces to my husband at work. He thinks I mad.

well I have one and not to look cool... I use it to check email in bed, play games in the car, do searches at the dinner table - it is MUCH more portable than a laptop and easier to read than my iphone. It fits a niche in there but isn't a necessity.

Yeah, I'm seeing it less as a necessity than ever. I was reading last night and then my son handed it to me and I played three rounds of solitaire while thinking, "what the heck am I doing?". There I was reading and being all intellectual (lol!) and suddenly was zombing out on solitaire. I don't even like solitaire! lol Sigh.
