So I took my invites to the post office yesterday got them hand canceled and off on their way! I''m dying to get my RSVPs now! I know some people are gonna LAG too which is a pet peeve of mine!

I also went ahead and sent out the rehearsal dinner invites too.

AND... we picked up our marriage license yesterday at the Santa Clara County Clerk''s office! We were both standing in line kind of tripping out about it. My FI was like ''Did you ever think you''d be here doing this?" He didn''t mean with me just in general, picking up a marriage license. I said not really until I met him of course but it was kind of surreal!

79 days to go until the wedding and I feel like there is so much to do still.. particulary since my bridesmaid and I are tackling making all the petal toss cones, programs, menus and these cute paper cone favors in lieu of the ones i had before (cost custting!).

So I''m excited yet freaking out a bit about time! Also I just had a septoplasy done yesterday and i''m in total pain. I''m on a constant run of vicodin right now just to keep the pain at bay. I had no idea how painful this would be and Ive had other surgeries you might consider more painful. They shaved off a bump on the brdige of my nose too so I''m bruised and bandaged up there as well. UGHHH. I hope this subsides in a couple of days.

Hey Violet!

We get our marriage license on 8/6 I am excited, but I also keep thinking I am going to forget the appointment. I''m paranoid!

What does "hand cancelled" mean? Is it some way to insure your invitations won''t be sent back?

Owwie on the pain... keep taking that vicoden. If it were me I would sleep it off until it were healed. I''m a total whimp.

Hey Mia!

Hand canceled means you get the person at the post office to stamp each one of them by hand versus putting it through that big machine that causes those awful black tire marks and sometimes tears your mail. That's the automated way they stamp all the mail at the post office. My invites are a bit thicker than normal invites and my rehearsal dinner invites are in a nice white envelope. I'd have never though of it if the note from wedding paper divas that came with my rehearsal dinner invites hadn't suggested it.

Yeah the pain with this stucks. I've tried sleeping off the last day and a half but it gets tough to just lay there. Everytime I feel pain though I just take another pain killer! I'm also dehydrated right now which isn't fun either. I do not recommend doing anything to your nose you don't absolutely have to!

Stupid question... do you know if it varies by state or county how far in advance you can get the marriage license? We''re less than 60 days out now and we haven''t gotten ours... I had thought about it months and months ago, but it''s slipped my mind till now when I saw your post! Now I''m worried if I don''t go and get it asap... I''ll forget about it again. Yikes!!!

Oooh violet it looks like you just gave my boss a new job to do with our wedding announcements! I want them sent out right away while we are still on my honeymoon so it''s going to be up to her to mail them out for us as soon as they come in. I''m definitely going to have her hand cancel them!

I want to get my nose done soo bad, but I am terrified of the pain! I''m sure you''ll be feeling better soon though. What''s up with the dehydration? Aren''t you allowed to drink?

partyjewels- It varies from state-to-state I think and maybe even county-to-county. Here in California, in San Mateo County, you can get it up to 90 days in advance. You''ll have to look up the specifics for your area though.

Drats, I was hoping the info I had found online was incorrect, everything I find on my county''s requirements tell me it cost $100!!! and that it''s only valid for 30 days from the date of issuance

blah.

Mia - I''m hydrating as much as I can. Eating sucks though and sleeping sucks cause you wake up wtih dry mouth. ugh one more day til cotton out of nose!

Party jewels - I think it does vary state by state, where are you located? Ours are good for 90 days here and cost $79.00

Not only does it vary state to state on how far in advance you can get it, some states have a waiting period between obtaining the license and when it become valid to use. When I got married we could not get our license more than 30 days in advance, but we had to wait 72 hours to use it. We went and got it the monday before our saturday wedding.

So glad you got the nose thing done. I know it hurts, but think of how much easier you''ll be able to breathe!!!

Tee hee! I was giddy when we got our marriage license too. I actually just used that photo on our company intranet because my smile is real. Funny how pics taken at the office don''t look remotely as cheery.... I never thought about the whole process when I was a kid though... I got married in my hometown and I must have driven by that courthouse a million times but never knew I''d be hunting down the county clerk''s office with my fiance. The ladies there were so sweet and wanted to know EVERYTHING. I bet they know a lot about weddings considering how many brides they see each day.
