So I got my invites today and I was really happy....til i opened them.

My first dissapointment came when I tried to put the RSVP card inside the invite and close it up. The RSVP is too big to be inside the folded invite. When i try to close and tie the invite around the RSVP, it makes the invite balloon out. though there is a small amount of room in the margins of the RSVP card, there is allso a ribbon that goes around the top of it, so I cannot cut the invite down to get it to fit.

Ok, this is no real bother, just an aesthetic one. I will just put the RSVP behind the invitation. Ok problem solved.

My main issue is that the RSVP card's invitation (pre printed with FI and I addresss). Is the same size as the envelope for the invites.

THis means that we cannot fit the RSVP card's invitation inside the invitation envelope!

Now normallly this isnt a big deal, we could just do what many couples do and get a larger "outer envelope" and put everything inside that one. It may be that that is what the invitation maker expected

However, we paid to have our guests names and addresses pre printed on the invitation envelopes (FI and I both have horrible penmanship). Why would we have asked for that, if we were not planning to use those as outer envelopes?

Anyway, I am hoping it is just some mix up. Really I am hoping to get smaller RSVPs and RSVP envelopes. Chances are though i will just get larger outer envelopes. Hopefully that wont mess with postage too much.

Here are RSVP cards. I got them with a brown satin ribbon (not the organza shown here)

The invites I ordered are just like the ones above.

Ugh! How annoying and what a dissapointment. Did you order these on-line? In store? Either way, if its a place that does invitations they should know what is needed for a response card and how it should fit in an envelope!!! I would call them, explain your problem and see how they can fix this for you.

Keep us posted!

Gwen, I am sorry to hear about your troubles. I have just finished a 2 week saga with my invites too. One typo and mistake and mistake after another mistake. Aaaaghhh.... my poor fiance was about to strangle the poor woman. In the end it work out though and I will be addressing them tonight

The reason I bring this up is that after the first two mistakes (one was the store, the other the vendor), they were so nice and overly apologetic about the future mistakes. In the end I did not have to pay for any of the "fixes" and each time the order was expedited and shipped overnight, so about 2-3 days total.
Re-read all of your proofs, paperwork, etc. and look at the invite book again. There is a good chance you can just talk to the manager and she can have "outer envelopes" done w/ printing and have them waive the fee. It sounds like you were pretty clear that the ones that you have were intended to be the "outer" envelope" (I mean - why the heck else woudl they be printed with guests names?). If that is the case then either the sales associate should have advised your properly or the vendor company made a mistake.
Let us know how it turns out.
Also - I think your invites look fabulous, nice choice

I ordered them online from England (I am fron the US).

I sent her an email, she is usually great about getting back to me so i should hear from her by tomorrow. If not, I will look into getting a number and calling her. Though I dont think my phone calls out of country, I will have to have FI do it at work =)

It is customary (perhaps more so out of the USA) to have inner and outer envelopes, however, i am pretty sure that the inner ones just have the guests names not the addresses so she must have known I was going to use them as "outer" envelopes.

Additionally, in our emails i asked specifically if the invites came with envelopes or if it was something i had to buy additionally and she said that they were included so i wouldnt need to buy them. Granted she could have meant included as "inner" envelopes but then you think she would have mentioned that i would have to buy an additional envelope to send it all in. PLUS, if that was the case, i would also think she would sell those and try and get me to buy them as well =)

We will see when she gets back to me....

Trimming you cards to the proper size to fit in the envelopes should be very easy for your printer. But if you ordered them online and can''t go back you could find a local printer with a trimming machine and they can slice off a little on all sides.

even if i trim the cards, i couldnt trim the envelopes. Plus, there is a ribbon that goes along the top of the card, if i made the cards smaller, the ribbon would no longer fit snuggly around them. i could try re-tieing the ribbon i suppose...

We don''t have inner and outer envelopes in the UK, just the one envelope. So that may part explain the problem.

Seems odd that the RSVP won''t fit in with the invitation though... did you request an odd size?

RSVP cards aren''t that common over here yet and all the ones I have seen are teeny tiny.

There were not different sizes. I bought both from here and the RSVP cards i bought are labeled as the ones that go with the invites. I just assumed they would fit.

Gwyn, something seems very wrong with your order. I am starting to think maybe they mistakenly used the wrong batch of evelopes. You are having problems with both RSVP and the outer/inner one. Something is definetly wrong. If this is an online vendor, it may be harder to explain this to them b/c you can''t go in person. Maybe you can take pictures of the problems so they can "see" that there is just no way for this all to fit properly?
Given your other comment re: the conversation you had....there is definetly some kind of mixup. I feel very strongly that you should not be the one to pay to have this corrected. And really, it''s not a whole order, they just need to provide you with the proper outer/inner envelope.
Good luck. Let us know what happens.

Sorry to hear about your situation Gwyn,

If it was just the matter of getting an outer envelope to correct your problem, that would be a bit annoying but, ok, something you could potentially live with.

However your rsvp card cannot fit into the envelope - how does that happen? This should be fixed by the vendor. Can you request a new set of rsvps cards? If they arrive corrected - they should fit into their envelope and the invitation, solving your need for outside envelopes?

Are you on a tight schedule, can you wait for the new order? I would not suggest trimming the card yourself, and then retying all the ribbon - depending on how many invites you have, it would be very time consuming. If you do end up going that route, I would expect a discount - for all your time and energy correcting the vendor's mistake.

Because the vendor printed names and addresses on the envelope - one should reasonably assume that would be used as the only envelope. You do have a legitimate complaint here as well.

Hope everything gets correctly and quickly resolved.

eta: the invites you've chosen are quite nice!

Curious, Gwyn, did the vendor get back to you yet?

Gwyn, I''m sorry to hear about your disappointment. Have you considered folding the RSVP envelopes in half to put them in the invite envelope. I realize that this is not ideal, but it would save you from having to address the outer envelopes (I understand your invite envelopes are pre-addressed?) and it would save you from the risk of upping the postage. Good luck to you!

Boo...

That is a bummer. I''m sorry it was a disappointment. The invitations are beautiful though!!

I know you can make them work. I feel your brain churning all the way over here
